Do we even have a favorite around here? A conservative Republican leader? A staunch conservative that won’t sell out to the first bidder on the DemocRat side? I know I’ve been away for most of the week, but I’m not seeing any ONE we can count on.
At the moment, my pick, along with many others, is Sarah Palin. No one is exciting the conservative base as she is. Whether this lasts until 2012 remains to be seen, but she certainly has the attention now.
There are others bandied about but no one who remotely comes close to her popularity. Frankly, I'd not want to see a broad field. That would give us a primary season like the Democrats went through in 2008. I'd prefer a couple strong leaders, both with solid conservative credentials. That, of course, leaves out all the contenders from 2008. They are not strong and not conservative.
In the Senate, Jim DeMint and three others. In the House, Mike Pence and 85 others. In my House District: last R was Deborah Pryce, the 218th vote for gun control in 1995. Now it's a D Socialist to the left of Obama, Mary Jo Kilroy. There will be a candidate or two against her in 2010; I'd vote for a dead mule to see Kilroy go down to defeat.
Many here like Sarah Palin in 2012; no clear second choice at this point. I'll vote R for Senate in 2010, but need to research the R primary candidates before supporting a particualr candidate.
