Washington Post closing all US bureaus outside DC The Washington Post is closing its last US bureaus outside the nation's capital as the money-losing newspaper retrenches to focus on politics and local news.

"At a time of limited resources and increased competitive pressure, it's necessary to concentrate our journalistic firepower on our central mission of covering Washington and the news, trends and ideas that shape both the region and the country's politics, policies and government," the newspaper's editor, Marcus Brauchli, wrote in a memo to employees that was obtained by Reuters.
The Post will close its bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, effective Dec 31.
The news comes after the Post told several employees at its website that they would be laid off, and follows several rounds of buyouts in recent years.
The Post, like nearly every other US newspaper, has been battered by falling advertising revenue and circulation as readers get more news online for free.
With a circulation of more than 582,000 copies, the Post is the fifth most-read daily newspaper on weekdays, according to figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. It is the third most-read Sunday paper, with paid circulation of more than 822,000 copies.

Altogether now kids.....AAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwwwwww!
I guess the lefties can’t afford to by newspapers.
This is a perfect example of how the left would rather go down in flames rather than tell the truth.
Sheesh, the LA Times, Chicago Tribune and now the Washington Compost all going under. What ever shall we do.
Save a tree, read the Internet!
Good. May Carl Bernstein eat his Thanksgiving dinner in a soup kitchen.
Why not? State run media only needs to cover the central government. Nothing else is news anyway.
So what... there is no news in Chicago, LA, or New York..... I learn everything that I need/what to know from DC.
It is a cost saving measure, they will just hire stringers, and watch out for those.
Ping!
If a newspaper closes and nobody notices....???
Personally, a media conglomerate such as Gannett should have went strictly online and then charged readers a monthly fee for ALL their publications, unlimited viewing. That's what I would have done had I been in the newspaper business, and even paid readers to submit breaking news stories.
Newspapers, in the literal dead tree edition sense, are totally obsolete.
“What ever shall we do.”
Pray the NY Times follows soon?
I hope they don’t close down. I enjoy racing through their crossword puzzles every morning. And that’s all I care about the WaPo.
To them, nothing exists outside the Beltway....
Now if only we could shut down the money losing capitol and untrench all the US bureaus from our daily lives........
You don’t have to be on site to produce predictable left wing propaganda. You can just sit in Washington and make the crap up. It’s not as if they actually went out and asked questions and reported the answers.

Elite a$$hole journos are now getting their just rewards.
I cannot remember the last time I read the paper front to back.
Heck, most of the time the free USA Today from the hotel gets carried back home unread!
