California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed one of his few allies in the state legislature to fill the state's vacant lieutenant governor's position.
That man is state Sen. Abel Maldonado, who like the governor is a moderate Republican. A 42-year-old lawmaker and broccoli farmer from near Santa Barbara, Mr. Maldonado broke a five-day budget-session impasse in February when he cast the final Republican vote needed to approve a series of spending cuts and tax hikes to close a then-$42 billion budget shortfall.
"Senator Maldonado has proven he has the strength and courage it takes to reach across the partisan divide and put the interests of Californians first and he is absolutely the most qualified person to take on the role of Lieutenant Governor," Mr. Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

We ain’t screwed. We’re SO screwed.
Taxed, taxed, taxed, taxed... Remember chanting that, ole Arnie? So glad you could bring it to us. Still better than Davis by a mile.
To cave-in and tax, tax, tax. Thanks to your vote I'm poorer this year Maldonaldo. You are just another tax and spend failure.
Maldonado is excrement.
I hate to do this but:
We told you that McClintock was the right vote but you stupido ingrained party sheeple went out to support a dying party rather than a strong conservative. What ya’ll got was this sicko fake conservative that sleeps with a Kennedy each night that set your stupido so-called conservatives back 20 plus yrs. Now live with it & for 20 yrs.
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic....
Read that a gutless wonder. I really wouldn't care otherwise but my state is being overun by Californians who bring their ridiculous ideas with them. That is we have Harry Ried.
All of these libs moved from the cancers that they create. The time has always been to kick them out of your arenas & that means getting after to them in your groceries stores, etc. Let them be known that they aren’t welcomed.
Trust me on this, I do.
Got to go slay the dragon tomorrow morning. Good night.
Right on!
Funny, that's how I felt with all the libs moving into California back in the '60s. Little did I know that their progeny would become an export.
Arnold has moved so far to the left you can’t even find him on a map.
What a disaster he has been for the (formerly) great state of California...
McClintock BTTT.
