Opinion: Chris Matthews should be fired for his Offensive Interview of Bishop Tobin
Catholic Online ^ | 11/24/09 | Deacon Keith Fournier

When I discovered that Chris Matthews of the program Hardball was going to interview Bishop Thomas Tobin on the continuing saga of Congressman Patrick Kennedy, I knew I had to watch. Bishop Tobin has courageously - and with a Pastor’s heart - tried to help Congressman Patrick Kennedy to see the dangerous error of his failure to defend the fundamental Right to Life.

I should have known from the “tease” to the segment which I was awaiting where this arrogant, self centered commentator intended to take this alleged “interview”. He repeatedly “teased” to the segment by incessantly repeating the term “Abortion rights” and indicating that he was going to interview Bishop Tobin who was "punishing" Congressman Kennedy for supporting “abortion rights”.

The claim of a so called “right” to abort an innocent child is heinous. It is also a fallacy to couch this evil in the language of a woman’s “Right to Choose.” Some choices are always and everywhere wrong. Yet, that is the current state of the positive law in America since the horrendous decisions in Roe and Doe. Women can “choose” to take the life of our first neighbors, the ones who live where we all once lived, in the womb.

Abortion is the only example of taking innocent human life which is so protected by the Police Power of the State. It has a special status as some sort of "super right" in the American libertine culture and the dictatorship of relativism. Imagine if the positive law created a so called “right” to kill three week old babies because the Supreme Court said it was OK. There is no moral difference. Abortion is feticide in a new language intended to make what is evil sound acceptable...

Matthews showed how inept he is as an interviewer, how misinformed he is as a Catholic, how rude he is as a person and how threatened he is by the Moral truth

But, Mathews DID show how liberals really think. That they are smarter than everyone else in the world and if you disagree with them, it is not a simple “You have your view and I have mine”, it is “You have your view and you should be treated like trash for it.”

It isn’t just abortion rights to Chrissy the sissy. Chrissy the sissy thinks communion is a right, and that the bishop is somehow denying Kennedy’s “right” to communion.

Next question: Why Isn’t Matthews told to refrain from communion?

Chris Mathews was actually red in the face and, I agree, rude to Bishop Tobin. However, Mathews’ efforts to “put down” the good Bishop did not succeed. The Bishop remained calm and peaceful and came across extremely well.

Never for the life of me will understand why a person (i.e. Mattthews, Kennedy — any Kennedy) decides to align himself with a totalitarian sect, and then protest that he has the right to hold opinions contrary to that sect. I mean... what's the point?

They could just be Episcopalians, or Methodist, or Nothingburgers.

Did Matthews at least give Tobin credit for his embrace of illegal aliens?

I may be misreading you but “totalitarian sect” caught my eye.

I would say that God was totalitarian when he gave us the ‘Ten Commandments’. They encompass everything we do.

As a graduate of La Salle and Holy Cross, he should know that the Church teaches that abortion is murder and anyone who assists in procuring an abortion is excommunicated. That includes those who promote abortion. There is NO constitutional requirement that Catholics affirm a "right" to an abortion (for others). That an unborn child is a human being is not a religious mystery limited to some leap of faith. It is a fact discernible by direct empirical observation, common sense, and science.

Yes and the 10 Commandments all in all is about respect for the life liberty and property of your neighbors.
I don’t call that totalitarian. I call it common decency.

What amazes me is how those who would make it a right to suck out the brains of a late term baby in the womb thinks it immoral to waterboard a murdering terrorist in the name of saving lives.

Chrissy feels she has the killer question “Would you support a bill that would put a women in jail for having an abortion?”. I have one SOMEONE should ask her, “Would you support a bill that would put a women in jail for not buying health Insurance?”. Then follow it up like he does, with a pause, then an interuption as the person starts their answer, then demand that they answer the simple question. “Again Ms. Mathews, do you support the current democratic health care bill that would put a women in jail for not buying health Insurance? Please answer the question”. Repeat.

Only a stepping stone to State control of religion.

The legislature voted today that the Bishop is hereby “ordered” to give communion to anyone who asks for it, under penalty of law.

The word, ‘totalitarian’ is usually used in relation to a ‘state’, true.

But it also means authority. God is our authority. Following the commandments is obeying God’s rules. I’ve run into a bad priest before, and it doesn’t mean I am going to do what he says.

That one line sentence says everything one needs to know to understand why the United States is crashing all around us. It took 200 years for rock hard tough people to build the US, but it only took the baby boomers and yuppies 40 years to destroy it.
