Barack Obama to host first state dinner in huge tent A huge tent has been pitched on the White House lawn to accommodate 400 guests at Barack Obama's first state dinner.

An invitation to the event on Tuesday evening has become the most sought-after ticket in the US.
The event, in honour of the visiting Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, is a chance for Mr Obama and his wife Michelle to welcome the Washington elite - and a smattering of Hollywood celebrities - into their new home.
Whereas President George W. Bush would hold his 140-person dinners in the formal state dining room, the Obamas have broken with recent tradition by taking a "big tent" approach that will accommodate 400.
Secrecy surrounds the event with the White House jealously guarding details of the guest list and menu, though produce from Mrs Obama's new vegetable garden is expected to be used and curry is suspected by some to be on the menu for the first time.
Deepak Chopra, the billionaire pioneer in New Age spirituality, announced on Twitter that he would be flying to Washington to attend and was "V honored to be invited".
Oprah Winfrey, the talk show hostess, is strongly rumoured to have been invited and there is speculation that George Clooney and Brad Pitt will attend what has been dubbed "Washington's equivalent of the Oscars".
According to the well-connected Hollywood blogger Nikki Finke, the former DreamWorks partners Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg will be at the dinner.

?????????????????????????????????????????
Ain’t that the truth!
Manmohan Singh knows that George W. Bush was the best friend India ever had in the White House.
Obama’s cozying up to the Chicoms can only be extremely disturbing to the Indian leader.
I don’t think a celebrity cookout in a tent at the end of November will make Mr Singh feel any warmer to the Socialist sympathies of Obama.
India is one of our closet democratic allies and deserves the respect of a full State dinner, not a celebrity hustle.
Do you think Obama will bow down low? think not.
Meanwhile the jobless economy crawls along.
oh, and the guests are to bring their own lawn chairs...
I’m lost...Is that a Shia or Suni tradition???
What’s next? Dixie cups and Chinette paper plates?
Party all the time, party all the time...all the Libs do is party all the time.
More like coke.
He’s a comedian, so who knows if he’s joking or not, but David Cross is claiming he brought cocaine to the recent White House Correspondents’ Association dinner and snorted it “maybe 40 feet from” the president.
Maybe this is so smokers can puff away. Wind and rain in the forecast? A Nor’easter?
Weed
I figured it out. It has to be a smell thing. They need air circulation. The problem is that we know that PBO gets cold easily and turns the heat up really high when it’s cold outside. When they turn the space heaters up on this “tent,” it could get really hot. I wonder if they’re gonna use energy efficient space heaters. I think they should “go green” and not use any heaters at all. LOL I hope they don’t catch the tent on fire . . .
Best comment so far. Absolutely right.
Celebrity (Payoff) Circus instead of a full state dinner - inside.
I hope Mr. Singh is not totally in despair about this country and his country’s friendship - after this “lavish hospitality” is shown him by Zero and his entourage.
