On rope lines across the country, I remember making eye contact with special-needs families and careers. This connection was a kind of mutual acknowledgment that said, yes, their lives are precious. They're worthy. And now we're going to let America know that there’s no need to be afraid or hesitant. Instead, let’s work together to make this world a more welcoming place for everyone with special needs.

Perfectly stated!

I couldn't read the entire article because I started crying.

What a brave woman, not only to do what she did, but to share it with us all. I sincerely hope that there are other women out there, perhaps considering aborting their unborn children, who will be as moved as I have been. May God be with them.

I felt the same way.

FReeper samiam1972, who is ALWAYS pregnant, will probably be bawling after the first paragraph if she reads it. :-)

This should be sent to those fools at the San Francisco bookstores who won’t sell Palin’s book.

I have a friend who has six children. One has profound cerebral palsy: their goal for her is that someday, she might be able to say, “Yes,” or “No.” Other than that, it’s waiting on modern medicine to work a miracle, which is not totally unrealistic given what’s happened in our lifetimes. The daughter after the one with CP has Down’s.

They were over here last week, and my friend said it’s the only time in years that she’s been in a house that was safe for her Downs daughter to play, because we have the four boys under 7. (This was before her daughter started putting toys in the catbox, but heck, we needed to wash them, anyway!)

My point is that your child’s humanity, and your love for your child, is more profound than any problems he or she may have at birth or beyond. Who would get through the teen years, if it were acceptable to eliminate a post-birth child who’s impossible? You don’t kill your child, period, from the moment he’s identified in the womb until he dies from some cause beyond your control.

Well, we know without a doubt, 100%, SHE wrote her book.

I need to buy it and read the rest.

What many people seem to miss is that, from the moment of conception, a baby is a HUMAN BEING who is entitled to exactly the same rights that the rest of us are. At conception GOD CREATES LIFE, people are simply the means He uses to do so.

THE WHOLE BOOK is THAT GOOD! If you haven't read it, shame on you. Go NOW and get your copy. (You can't have mine, I won't share it!) Seriously, this is a great book, a page turner, and one that reads more like a novel than an autobiography. I thought it would be all politics ... no, because the lady is not about "all politics" ... there's a lot more. The view inside the campaign was fascinating, and now as you and I look back on what we were viewing ... it all makes sense. Also the "Thumping" ... amazing. (Wonder what that is? ... buy your own book! :-)

My wife brings up the "TV stuff" ... Sarah's not smart, she doesn't read newspapers, she doesn't know her geography, she's not ready for an executive position, she does poor interviews (Katie), etc. And there I sit with the ANSWERS in my hand and can't get her to read it. Oh me ... THAT's frustration!!! (I'm gonna block PMSNBC!)

a baby is a HUMAN BEING who is entitled to exactly the same rights that the rest of us are

Unfortunately, many people don't recognize rights unless the other person can enforce his rights - i.e., defend himself. A child who's been born at least potentially has someone to defend him, and the law on his side to some extent. An unborn child can't do anything for himself, and nobody else is allowed by law to enforce his rights.

I was at that rally in CR! Sarah was great there though I didn’t get to meet her... had to get out of the crowd because I was pregnant myself and couldn’t take the crowd.

My youngest brother has Down Syndrome. A lot of what she said here resounds with me though my family didn’t know until he was born, not that it would have made any difference.
