Man in 23-Year-Long Coma Speaks, Says He Was Always Conscious
London, England -- After he was the victim of an automobile accident, doctors said 23-year-old Rom Houben was in a comatose state and unable to communicate with those around him. Now, 23 years later, the 46-year-old says he felt trapped as he was conscious the entire time and attempted to communicate.

Ouch and double Ouch.The first thought that came to my mind was being buried alive.
...this one really scared me....if you’ve ever been in a bad auto accident(and I have)you know this could have been you.
w0w. I just can’t imagine how a family that pulled the plug on a loved feels now...and think of all the living wills requiting the switch to be turned off. This requires some deep thinking...good find, thank you.

I friend of mine has a kid that was in a very bad car crash. He had been in a coma for months. Doctors wanted her to pull the plug..she refused.
That kid is in his late 30s now, living a normal life.
Can’t help but be reminded of Terri Schiavo. If she was conscious (and I believe she was), how horrifying for her to be aware that they were going to deny her food and water - and were putting her to death.
The comparison is not valid. Terri Schiavo wasn't merely in a coma - she was brain-dead, as demonstrated by her electroencephalogram.
