CHICAGO – For more than two decades, Oprah Winfrey has been the inspirational, change-your-life champion who reigned over daytime television much like Johnny Carson once ruled late night.

Now she's ready to say goodbye, leaving a huge void for broadcast TV even as she raises the possibility of more Oprah than ever when she starts her own cable network.

Winfrey told viewers Friday that she will dim the lights on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" at the close of its 25th season in late 2011.

"I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye," she said, holding back tears. "Twenty-five years feels right in my bones, and it feels right in my spirit. It's the perfect number, the exact right time."

Well, being given two years notice should help some.

leaving a huge void for broadcast TV

She is already a “huge” void. IMHO

This does represent a major problem — the stock in Kleenex will drop by at least 50% and commercialized liberalism will take a severe setback. Think of all those women that will have to make themselves cry and be miserable......wow, this will be culture shock for the Obama crowd....

“leaving a huge void”

....void?!! what void?....no more plugging phoney books?...no more pop psychology?...no more Obama worship?...
I’ve never seen an Oprah show for more than 10 minutes....and that was once every two or three years.

You would think a 2-year warning would suffice

Don't make me puke. She is just a female Jerry Springer! Who do they think they are kidding.

Big deal. She is going to OWN her OWN cable channel.

Hey, that is an amazing coincidence, she could call it OWN(Oprah Winfrey Network).

She has the power and franchises to fill up her own network. Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and more. she owns those shows and can easily develop more.

"even as she raises the possibility of more Oprah than ever when she starts her own cable network. "

While I'm willing to "upgrade" to the next higher DISH package to get FOX News, I would not do the same just to get Oprah.

This is going to be just in time for the elections, so it will be all obama, all the time channel...which is not a whole lot differenct than CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and MSNBC.

I've never watched an entire Oprah show, and I never will... Anyone who has to give "gifts" to their audience, up to and including a car, would naturally command ratings for a while. But like obamacare, that would be unsustainable.

The leftist harpies of “The View” stand ready to take up the slack for self-congratulatory or flakey New Age liberal women everywhere.
