Welcome to FR!
I'm of the impression Mr. Hayes has taken cold hard looks at cold and hard realities...
Michael Hayes is senior editor of the Phnom Penh Post, a paper he co-founded in 1992.
Try reading the article in full. He's trying to EXPLAIN the cold, hard reality. He's not crapping himself over it.
As a tip, one can google the article's title, then access it direct from there, without having to "register" with the NYT.
If we don’t take control of the government back from the communists who call themselves Democrats they WILL kill us all right here in America.
“If youre a Christian,...if youre a Jew, Muslims want you dead!”
If you are the wrong flavor of Muslim, they want you dead. If you are the right flavor of Muslim but your tribe doesn’t get along with their tribe, they want you dead. You are the right flavor of muslim, belong to the same tribe but offend them, they want you dead.
They are really all about equal opportunity
The lodge where I stay in Kabul was badly damaged on Oct. 8 when a suicide car bomb exploded 80 meters down the road near the Indian Embassy. Seventeen Afghans working in photocopy shops near the embassy were killed and another 60 wounded... 75 windows were blown out. The next day I was talking with the owner, who, for the third time in three years, had to fork out $3,000 to fix his windows. I asked him what would happen if NATO pulls out of Afghanistan? He replied without hesitation, looking me straight in the eyes and obviously referring to the Taliban and their allies: "They will kill us all." His comment struck a still-raw nerve. Thirty-five years ago, in November, 1974, I was in Siem Reap, Cambodia. As a young backpacker I was foolhardy enough to spend six weeks poking around a country at war... I met a Cambodian man who spoke English... The Khmer Rouge controlled the Angkor temples and the surrounding countryside. There were intense firefights at night. At one point my host turned to me and said: "I hope America doesn't abandon us. If they do, the Communists will kill us all."The New York Slimes, working overtime in their role as partisan media shills, planting the meme that Afghanistan is Vietnam. Thanks neverdem.
Let’s give Mr. Hayes credit for speaking out now. What he said is very important and timely.
While he was wandering around Siem Reap (a place I couldn’t get to in 1970 due to the No. Vietnamese anti-aircraft threat), I was testifying before the House Foreign Affairs/International Affairs Committee of Congress.
I presented to them a “Secret” report on the Khmer Rouge occupation tactics in one region of Cambodia, tactics that were the precursor to the class leveling and genocide to follow in 1975-77.
I was in an office of the National Security Council when it came over the teletype to my friend who was an area security specialist on Indochina.
Ironically, I was there specifically to ask him if he had any documents I could use in a new study for Congress to be entitled “The Human Cost of Communism in Cambodia”, as a companion volume to the 1972 volume I created and worked on, entitled “The Human Cost of Communism in Vietnam” (Sen. Internal Security Subcommittee compendium study.
My friend helped me to get this document declassified almost immediately for the book and unbeknowst to me at that time, for use in a future congressional hearing.
The only reference I know of referring to my testimony and its warning (backed by the Quinn Report), can be found in Prof. Louis Fanning’s book “Betrayal in Vietnam”.
I’ve long ago learned, over the deaths of my friends and acquaintances in both So. Vietnam and Cambodia (where I was a journalist), that liberals and leftists don’t care about who they abandon or betray.
Mr.Hayes has reiterated this point 35 years after I testified about the planned genocide in Cambodia and the mass killings which had already taken place in So. Vietnam (and would in the future if the Communists won).
It looks like we both agree that another genocidal betrayal is in the works. After all, Obama has so many communists/marxists/socialists on his staff or as “czars” (I prefer “Commissars”),many of the Maoist orientation, that all they are doing is carrying on Mao’s and Pol Pot’s policies of betraying our allies and letting another “curtain of silence and blood” fall upon another country.
I call this policy “treason.”
Afghani is the unit of money there. The people are usually called Afghans.
Maybe the NYT’s is just telling us what they expect to come to pass???
Nobody appears to have the stones to stop it, yet...
We have more to fear right here in America with the terrorists in our Congress.
If we let it happen these damn home grown commies in Washington will put all of us where the imans will have a cake walk to take everything.
This blowing up of New York by terrorists is exactly what will happen and the bozo pOTUS doesn’t give a damn.
All of this is part of the democrats long range plan.
Perhaps we can just stand around, do nothing and kiss our ass good bye!!
Huh? Did you read the article? The man is saying he learned his lesson a long time ago from the Cambodian genocide that America shouldn’t casually dismiss the fears of people who think that being abandoned to their fate by America will lead to their deaths or enslavement.
He’s not planting a meme, he seems almost to be saying we need to get to work on winning the war and if that means more troops, so be it.
When the NYT runs an article supporting the war, I say it is time to withdraw support. Nobody wins in Afghanistan. Ever. V’s wife.
Really? Then why does my brother-in-law, who is from Pakistan, call people from Pakistan Pakistanis?
The term you are using is for the lazy people who can't be bothered to pronounce a couple of extra syllables.
The cynicism and self delusion of the Left has no bounds.
Their base line is that the evil of the West is paramount (ironically, because we don't measure up to our own high standards) and is self-evident, as we traipse around the world, trying to impose our inauthentic standards upon the rest of mankind.
Meanwhile, the standards of Afghan and Pakistan tribesmen, and other "cultural" wonders are considered quaint and deserving of an authentic realization.
In the end, it comes back to the multiculturist idea that there are no Universals, "who are we to judge" when a wackily-attired gent wants to cut off the nose of his wife for "dissing" him ?
Leftists are every evil that they project on to others.
