The Los Angeles County Museum of Art saw its investment portfolio lose nearly a quarter of its value during its 2008-09 fiscal year, which coincided with the worst worldwide financial debacle since the Great Depression.
The $254.7-million pile of cash and investments shrank to $196 million, a 23% drop, according to figures in the audited financial statements that LACMA recently posted on its website.
The most worrisome development for LACMA -- as for many nonprofits -- has been the recession's effect on fundraising. In 2007-08, it raked in gifts and pledges totaling $129.7 million, most of it for the museum's expansion and renovation campaign, which was in high gear amid strong markets. In 2008-09, donations fell to $29 million. The capital campaign stands at $316 million -- $134 million shy of its $450-million goal.

Probably had to cut back on the Brie.
This is always the problem with the left. When people like me (meat eaters) make money these pos want to take it. I will not give another dollar. (obviously I have to pay sales tax.) Why not a FLAT TAX?
There are only a half dozen or so cities in the USA which have the historical permanence to support the genuine arts.
LA may, or may not, be one of them. Time will tell.
The poor things... perhaps they should put in a call to one of their state sinators to retract their Hell Care vote tomorrow. Reed (sic) will surely fix things up right.
I wonder if they support art or the sort of stuff that calls taking a dump on a sidewalk, “performance art”?
Real Americans are waking up and refusing to spend their money in places like this. I absolutely refuse to spend one red cent on anything that supports liberals ... I know I am not the only one.
Of course way to many don’t have money to spend on the extras anymore either since all the wealth redistribution is raising the price of necessities.
Liberals basically come in two flavors , the elitist snob and dirt poor give me bunch. The elitist snobs fund thing by taking other peoples money and well the dirt poor can’t fund much on their own because they are to busy waiting in lines waiting for their next free . Their causes can not survive if real Americans REFUSE to fund them.

Yes. Probably more and more ‘memberships’ canceled — that big old Getty up on the hill is a colossal failure too — they can’t pay people to visit that place and there’s not much in it anyway. Best thing about it is a nice view on a clear day and clear days in LA are few.
So much money has been thrown away refurbishing and rebuilding that County museum over the years — what a waste -— it was nice enough the way it was in the sixties. Where did all that money go? It’s a monstrosity now and no visitors.
LA is more and more becoming the wrong place for museums of this type. Not enough museum-going fans even live near the County facility — I don’t think the Koreans and Mexicans and middle easterners that inhabit the area are too gung ho on visiting art museums.
It’s always one of the best museums in America. I was just there 3 months ago and really is worth it, probably at par with the MET in NY. I would prefer to have it remain open instead of giving public money over to those illegals.
Here's a clue. This sculpture is out front.
