point #3 is spot-on. I personally know too many guys over 60 who have given up thinking that they’ll ever work again, so they’ve punted and entered early retirement. His point is correct that they are very likely to outlive their savings, creating a whole new dependency class for the Democrats.

Don't know about his 10 points - I look locally.

Local Craigs list shows almost no jobs.

The local telephone (ILEC) is selling off property

The local gov’t Unions managed to get fat, 5 years contracts - and the Muni just laid off 173 folks. The next few years will be interesting on this point.

Local stores have been have ‘holiday’ sales since mid Oct.

The oil patch is laying off folks in a very steady stream.

And last, but not least, the post office in Alaska just official killed Santa Claus.

You have my heartfelt prayers. Hang in there.

And you...and your hubby have mine!
I'm making a rather large assumption here, and assuming you are a working spouse, contributing not only to the necessary household expenses, but to the health insurance coverage as well?

If so, you are a hero (heroine) in my eyes. My spouse does not believe she needs to work, or that she should have to help with earning support in these depression times - tho she has a plethora of job skills.

Any idea on how to get her to "see the light"?

Well, now you know another one. I was thrown out of work at age 62.3; my job was taken over by a minority group femal at less than half my salary.

In order to live, I HAD to begin SS, as the job market for my skills...and my age...is gone.

As to outliving my savings...nope. In that regard, I'm fortunate.
I have CAD (coronary artery disease). In the event I believe my lifespan will in fact last longer than my available funds, I will:
1. Stop taking my required medications,
2. Start smoking again (I quite when I was 23. I liked smoking tho),
3. Begin to eat lots and lots of fatty, sweet foods (what a way to go, huh?),
4. And stop any kind of exercise.

I figure I can be "out of here" within three months; six tops.

let her live in the darkness for a while. As the electric, water, and phone/internet/cable start getting shut off, she may come around.

I have always felt the same way as she did. IT IS my husbands job to support me. I raised his kids and washed his shorts and kept his house and homeschooled etc. I also helped him start his company. When it failed, we had to go to work; both of us. We have a partnership. I was never supposed to work outside the home. He felt I did my job raising his family 24/7 for 25 years, so after that I was free. Now I will have to work for a few years to get situated again. After that, whatever happens, it is all on him. He wanted a stay at home wife and thats what he married. Ya can’t have it both ways, but when its a crunch, a real woman will do whatever it takes to help her man. Good luck....
