US Sen. McCain defends campaign team against Palin (McCain praises Schmidt, Wallace, others) (barf)

WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - U.S. Republican Senator John McCain on Wednesday strongly defended the top advisers from his 2008 presidential campaign in the face of sharp criticism from his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin.

McCain, in a telephone interview with Reuters, singled out campaign manager Steve Schmidt and senior adviser Nicolle Wallace for praise after Palin blasted the pair in her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."

"There's been a lot of dust flying around in the last few days and I just wanted to mention that I have the highest regard for Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace and the rest of the team ... and I appreciated all the hard work and everything they did to help the campaign," he said.

"I think it's just time to move on," he said.

To win back both houses in 2010 with CONSERVATIVES! I don’t see it as a either or situation. Reid is not running against McCain. BTW..Reid’s numbers were pretty low last time I checked.

Some of them might be Romneybots.

Juan McCain...is siding with his RINO campaign managers against a conservative.

He did not. Read the article.

Can you define a “CONSERVATIVE”? So I know what to look for...

Why hasn’t he publicly called for all the backstabbers in his campaign who continue to attack Palin, to stop and move on. It’s only when they start taking some well deserved heat that he jumps in. He shows more loyalty to those who ran such a pathetic campaign, than he does to the one person in his campaign who actually worked to win. I’d like to see Palin endorse a primary challenge to McCain, give the challenger money, and campaign for him or her. Unfortunately, I think Palin will stay out of the AZ race, but hope that she is “too busy” to campaign for him at least.

Well, I’ve noticed that BobJ has been attacking Palin every chance he gets. But I don’t notice that he’s a McCain supporter.

The anti-Palin contingent at FR seems to be a small but vocal group. No doubt some of them who have signed up recently are trolls, and perhaps others just have strong opinions for one reason or another.

I’m a Palin fan, myself. She’s not talking about the presidency at this point, and I think has said that the first order of business is to clean house, buck the RINO establishment, and get some good congressmen and Senators elected in 2010. Hard to argue with that.

Whether or not she becomes the candidate for President remains to be seen. I’d be delighted, but it’s too soon to say. Meantime we need all the help we can get twisting arms at the RNC and other power nodes of the party.

Oh yeah, many are. But one of the RINOs was also the FR McCain List organizer from the first day of the primary.

First choice stuff.

A simple review of their history or searches will show you there are more RINOs on here than we’d like to think.

This is the man that Senator McCain is praising:

Todd Purdum’s article: “All the while, Palin was coping not only with the crazed life of any national candidate on the road but also with the young children traveling with her. Some top aides worried about her mental state: was it possible that she was experiencing postpartum depression? (Palin’s youngest son was less than six months old.)” In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt.

If you don’t know what a conservative is, I’m afraid there is no hope for you. McCain is no conservative. He voted for amnesty for illegal aliens, McCain/Feingold, the original porkulus bill and a host of other bills over the years that are not and never will be, considered conservative.

I didn’t single him out or name him but he was a strong McCain supporter. It’s in his posting history, since you mentioned it. Don’t bother looking it’s there lol.

He’s not worth the effort, he so RINO one could assume it...my apologies for not pinging him since he is here.

OK, I’ll take your word for it. I did look up his recent posts, because he seemed to be behaving in such a troll-like fashion, and there were hundreds of anti-Palin slurs. Nothing else, as far back as I went.

People can protect each other as much as they like but it doesn’t change the facts.

We saw it happen and much of it made no sense at all.
Sarah was being handled by McCain people in ways that created a public presence and personna that ran counter to her true character.

First Sarah was being kept away from the public and then scheduled for interviews with talking heads who were obviously biased against her. It made no sense and it is certainly at odds with the Sarah we saw before and after her every minute of public exposure was taken under control by McCain insiders.

And what a co-inky-dink that former CBS political analyst Nicolle Wallace pushed Sarah into the Katie Couric CBS setup with bogus tales of it being just a lighthearted chat designed to help poor Katie in the ratings department.

These political animals saw a chance to use Sarah and that is exactly what they did.

Good for him. Too many leaders are spineless wimps who would leave their people out to dry.

Sarah would lose for sure if she did this but it would be so funny if she asked McCain if he wanted to run as her vice president. Of course she would issue him a list of can and can't does, such as what close[sic] to wear

Now I have this mental image of McCain dressed up in that $150k wardrobe....

I’m not sure of that, although who is to say what parts of the campaign were dictated by McCain. For example, I suppose the suspension of the campaign could have been totally McCain, with his advisors arguing against it — but i could hear Steve Schmidt shaking his head up and down at how “clever” McCain’s suggestion was, instead of telling him how stupid it was.

And who knows how much of what they did to Sarah was McCain’s own fault. Certainly, picking her without making sure his own staff was going to be able to work with her and sell her was pretty stupid of him, but the staff definitely failed to use her correctly (I can’t say whether using her correctly would have helped, but it is clear that what they did didn’t help).

I don’t really want to sound like I’m defending McCain. I voted for him, but I didn’t campaign for him, or ever really support him, he was just all we had left. I actually went to a rally for Palin with my daughter (although partly because Fred Thompson was there as well). McCain pissed me off at the rally, like he always did when he spoke. That and having almost as many democrats and rinos speak as conservatives.
