“Obama says it: There’s a chance he won’t run in 2012”

That’s not the way I read the excerpt. It says he doesn’t care about the polls, not that he won’t run.

I read it the same way you did. You could say he raised the possibility that he may not win, but I didn't see any indication that he might not run.

He may be afraid that the birth certificate issue will be forced next time around. The republicans should make a huge deal out of showing all background papers and birth certificates and force his hand. In the back of his mind, he knows he was not born in Hawaii.

You are correct, Sir.

Anyone who believes a KC Star headline quoting a CNN interview with President Obama should really rethink whether or not they are qualified to exercise their right to vote.

“That’s not the way I read the excerpt. It says he doesn’t care about the polls, not that he won’t run.

I concur the reporter read between the lines a bit, but notice this:

“You know, if - if I feel like I’ve made the very best decisions for the American people and three years from now I look at it and, you know, my poll numbers are in the tank and because we’ve gone through these wrenching changes, you know, politically, I’m in a tough spot, I’ll - I’ll feel all right about myself,”

He’s already preemptively considering the possibility his poll numbers will be in the tank (shades of GWB). He even acknowledges he could be in a tough spot (as opposed to assuming he’d be a shoo-in for re-election). BUT notice also that he attributes such a dismal situation to Americans having gone through “wrenching changes” (shades of FDR), NOT because he in any way screwed up or caused things to get worse. Quite the contrary, he claims he’ll feel good about himself.

In short, he’s already mentally prepared himself for the possibility he could get voted out of office, but he’s not going to chalk that up to failure on his part. Instead (implicitly) it will be because the stupid impatient voters who don’t understand all the great stuff he’s accomplished weren’t willing to wait to see how things turned out once his wonderful policies (such as Obamacare) were fully in place.

I concur he doesn’t care about the polls, as he arrogantly believes he knows what’s best for America and if we don’t appreciate him, that’s OUR loss! This is precisely the attitude that has lead him to have such a tin ear when it comes to health care, cap and trade, higher deficits and higher taxes. I cannot wait for him to get his comeuppance in 2012.
