Some friend. That's why guns are equipped with a safety lock. I remember once as a boy when my Dad finally let him shoot his pistol, a 9mm semi-automatic, extremely handy for the occasional encounter with rattlesnakes.
I handed it back to him without resetting the safety lock. I not only got the biggest a**-chewing in my life, but it was months and months before my Dad would ever let me handle a firearm again. This friend evidently didn't have the good fortune of learning such a lesson early in life.

I was the beneficiary of my stepfather's firearms safety lessons, and I never went hunting with him (wasn't my thing). He was a stickler for it, even when it came to BB guns and the like.
Those lessons have stuck with me my entire life, through college (4 years on the rifle team), 8+ years in the Army, etc.
