Hunger in U.S. at a 14-year high
NYT: 1 in 7 households struggles to put enough food on table
During his campaign, President Obama promised to eliminate hunger among American children by 2015. The administration has yet to offer a detailed plan to do so, and the report on Monday underscored the daunting dimensions of the challenge.

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans who lacked reliable access to sufficient food shot up last year to its highest point since the government began surveying in 1995, the Agriculture Department reported on Monday.
In its annual report on hunger, the department said that 17 million American households, or 14.6 percent of the total, had difficulty putting enough food on the table at times during the year. That was an increase from 13 million households, or 11.1 percent, the previous year.
The results provided a more human sense of the costs of a recession that has officially ended but continues to take a daily toll on households; it describes the plight not of a faceless General Motors or A.I.G. but of families with too little food on their childrens plates.

There are no hungry American children except for those with neglectful parents.
Parents need more Obama-money
I thought the media only ran stories about hunger and homelessness when the Repubs were in the WH?
but I thought that tripling the cost of cigarettes in that same time frame was supposed to be a good thing.
unintended consequences?
“The number of Americans who lacked reliable access to sufficient food shot up last year to its highest point since the government began surveying in 1995, the Agriculture Department reported on Monday.”
...I was just at the supermarket today and had plenty of access to food...here’s another gem:
“.....members of the household had too little to eat or saw their eating habits disrupted during 2008.”
....their eating habits were disrupted?....many people I see using food stamps are FAT....same down at the food bank...lots of over weight folks.
Which is it, you crazy libs? Are we hungry, or obese???/s
Exactly - but Zero speaks from China about this - so we know the Damnorats will be pushing new, increased Food Stamps? or what to take care of this “hunger” report.
mkay Obamie promised world peace, an end to world hunger, and he also said my mortgage would be paid off...
They have to get it in now, while there's still time to blame Bush.
Wagyu beef futures, however, are at an all time high.....
I agree. We have the world’s richest poor class in existence. Just walk into a social services building and you will see plenty of over weight moms and energy-filled packs of children.
FWIW, one can buy 50 lb. of rice and 50 lb. of pinto beans at Costco for about $60. Can easily feed a family of three on that for a month.
A good many years back I had such a seasonal business I was eligible for food stamps during the winter. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten better. Had some trouble spending it all.
More BS disinformation to increase taxes on the American Taxpayer.
When will we start seeing food drops in the inner city areas?
Yeahhhhh...gimme some of dat stash he has.
So, what does the Times want Obama to do about it?
Natinalize all the farms, meat packers, food producers, and supermarkets?
Probably.
surprised the headline from the Times isn’t ...”Obama helps America lose weight”
