OH WELL, if the target audience doesn’t want the magazine, and advertisers don’t feel it’s worth it to advertise there, hmmmmm...................

Well, they are not alone. Much of the MSM has the same problem nowadays. So they can’t blame this one on our being a bigoted homophobic society.

>> Employees arrived at the newspaper’s offices... to find the door locked and a sign posted on the front:

Maybe they should have gone in at the rear.

"This is devastating to the Atlanta community,"

Here's a free clue: one of the reasons your stupid little paper went out of business is because you don't understand the meaning of basic words like, "devastating".

Those are 2 different communities?

Okay please tell me...

What kind of business model can thrive aiming a publication at 5% of the population of which maybe, at best, 25% of the age group interested in their issues read a newspaper?

I mean, is anyone shocked that a publication that may be read by 1-1.5% of a 3,000,000 person metro would fail? 30k readers @ a $10.00 CPM = $300 ad rate.

Can’t imagine that you could put together a list of hundreds of Atlanta businesses willing to advertise on that kind of basis let alone in a gay publication.

Someone gave a gift suscription of “Southern Voice” along with the “Advocate” to the Perry,GA public library in 1994. The rags were available in the racks where kids were exposed to it. When this was told to the Houston county commission, they responded by merely moving the magazine rack to another room in the library where kids still get a hold of it. The local papers ran articles for a day or two, then the story disappeared before it could be published in the larger circulation Macon Telegraph.

Of course not! Which is why Jesse Jackson set up his seminar series: “Affirmative action business coercion for victimized minorities*”.

Activate! Mobilize! Coerce!

“A-hey hey
A-ho ho
Advertise here
Or the lawsuits will flow!”

*Victimized minorities now include Gay, Lesbian, Transgendered, Bigendered, Confused, and Just Plain Perverted Americans!

Actually it sounds like a pretty classic case for the decade of greed. A few small locals papers are thriving in their niche market. They get swallowed up by some sharks in a series of LBOs. The sharks reward themselves handsomely until the well starts to run dry, then they take the money and fold. Almost everybody is ruined. At least the employees can't say the sharks discriminated against them because of their sexual orientation.

"Things have been terrible for at least five years," he said. He was laid off earlier this year because "they literally couldn't afford me anymore."

What a classic line!
