Republicans in 5 state races may find new fights on their right flanks
WASHINGTON Canyon Clowdus thinks Americans have less freedom and pay more taxes than ever.
We need more John Wayne and Jesus in Washington, the Marble Falls rancher and businessman declares.
Clowdus is just the kind of grass-roots activist that national Republican leaders sought to fire up in the Tea Party movement that has spread across Texas in energetic rallies and heated town hall confrontations. Now, the 40-year-old Army veteran is seeking to unseat an incumbent congressman whom he calls a profligate spender.
Just one problem: Clowdus, an avid Tea Party loyalist, is running in the Republican primary against a Republican incumbent, Rep. Mike Conaway of Midland.
Across Texas, at least five Tea Party activists have announced their candidacies for U.S. House and Senate seats.

The last time I mentioned her in this forum, I got flamed..... Texans are beginning to hear her...and they may actually be listening....
I know what to expect from Perry and KBH...."Mo-ub-da-same"
NOTE: I have no connection to the Medina campaign, except my love for my great State of Texas.
Thanks for the link to her web site

“Republican Incumbant” OR is it “RINO Incumbant”??
Wouldncha like to know?
I have mentioned Debra Medina here several times and have also been flamed. But I continue to tell everyone about her. The press never mentions Debra....with them the race is just between Rick and Kaye. We have been very impressed with Debra Medina.
We have been working the Tyler Russel campaign for a couple of months now to replace Kevin Brady. Tyler is a very impressive young man.
People need to understand that the primary is the most important race.
Primary Medina Issues
Private property and gun ownership are essential elements of freedom.
Eliminate property tax: We must eliminate property tax in Texas. We can fund necessary government services more efficiently and fairly using a broader based sales tax. Eliminating property tax and deriving that revenue from a sales tax will mean a $3 billion increase in net personal income in Texas and will add 125,000-175,000 new jobs.
Protect gun ownership: Protecting freedom requires that the people be well armed. Government cannot protect us from violence, we must defend ourselves. Texans must not compromise and must not surrender their right to keep and bear arms. We must not only nullify federal laws that threaten that right but encourage citizens to be, as Madison encouraged, trained to arms, as that is the best and most natural defense of a free country.
Secure our border: Texas must promote healthy immigration and trade through the legal ports of entry. We cannot wait on Washington D.C. to act. As governor I will make addressing illegal immigration and promoting sovereignty a top priority.
Restore Sovereignty: The U.S. Constitution not only protects citizens' freedoms in the Bill of Rights, it also divides power between the federal and state governments and ultimately reserves final authority for the people themselves. Texas must stop the over reaching federal government and nullify federal mandates in agriculture, energy, education, healthcare, industry, and any other areas D.C. is not granted authority by the Constitution.
The guy they’re running against Tim Walberg in the 7th appears to be an OK conservative at a glance but his integrity comes into question when he allows himself to be used against a known conservative.
Also bothersome is the fact that it looks like there’s some dynasty building going on. He’s the brother of Fla. congressman Tom Rooney and has a 3rd brother who is considering a congressional run. Most disturbing is the fact that his uncle Dan Rooney was appointed ambassador to Ireland by Obama in apparent payoff for supporting and raising money for Obama.
The thing that bothers me most is the fact that the NRCC is attempting to manipulate our primary and will only succeed in splitting the vote. If they don’t want me to choose my own representation, then they don’t want my vote at all.
Most Texans recognize the difference between cold raindrops and warm spit......
Exactly. Conaway is good about some things, but he seems to be trending left the more he's in DC. I was furious with him over the first "stimulus" vote and I let him know it in a letter. He called me, personally, and we had a long talk. I wrote him again later about something else and he had a staffer (whom I don't think has ever read the Constitution) call me.
I like what little I know of Clowdus, but I do need to do more research on him.
That info is pretty much what my husband said he heard. I’m liking her more and more.
I’d love to hear some one, anyone stand up and yell hey quota boy you are a lying marxist piece of crap.
And some would gasp and others would applaude.
It doesn’t matter what they learned. They would rather a Social Republican lose than that a conservative Republican win. Then they don’t have to feel ashamed when their Social Democrat friends curl their lips at them and they still get invited to the best parties.
I wish to hell you were talking about a Florida candidate for governor.
22 Republican members of the House of Representatives gave speeches written for them by lobbyists for the foreign pharmaceuticals corporation.
But look at the cute way her parents spelled her name - Lynsi Burton.
Are Marble Falls and Midland in the same congressional district? If so, that is a large district.
This is just BS. Everyone on here believes there are Republicans in power who just magically appeared and they're pulling strings and manipulating candidates to make sure the Republican party is ruled by RINOS.
Even Michael Steele was selected by national committee men and women who were chosen by state delegates who were chosen by county caucus goers. If you're not happy, all you have to do is go to a county caucus and get yourself appointed to your district and state convention.
It's not difficult.
Thanks. That is a big district.
It’s about time.
The GOP in Texas on the state level is pretty much run as a private club by members of a Houston megachurch.
Outsiders need not apply, especially those inclined to rock the boat.
That’s how we’ve gotten such sterling talent as Kay Barely Republican...
