A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Good evening, Kathy. Good evening, all!
I posted this on the Sunday thread, but it was a bit late, so I don't know who might have seen it:
Just got back from church a little while ago (actually, it was a couple hours, but the kids have kept me away from the computer).
It was the 125th Anniversary Mass for St. Thomas Aquinas Church. (Officially, it's "Holy Family St. Thomas Aquinas" now, but I ignore that.)
There weren't any bishops available to celebrate Mass. However, we did have a Special Guest: the relic of Mary Magdeline. As the priest put it, "the tibia, the shin bone that was the first to kneel down before the risen Lord".
It was an experience to be there. The church was more packed that I have seen in a long time. (I'm technically not part of that parish anymore, but I have family there.) Filled, St. Thomas easily holds over 1000 people in its pews (my estimate).
The Mass was preceded by a precession through the neighborhood, a short walk from our church around to neighboring Holy Family church and back again. My mother couldn't make that anymore (there's a reason it's called Park Slope), so we met her inside the church, which is good, because she managed seats between her pew and my school friend's mother (whom I'll name only because I like saying her name, which is -- I am not making this up -- Nancy Clancy. Proud grandmother whose granddaughter was serving up on the altar, near the relic).
The procession had a mariachi band as well as a bagpiper. They mostly alternated, but oddly enough, when they were playing at the same time, it wasn't anywhere near as cacophonous as I would have expected. (My brother was impressed that I was probably the only person he knew that could use that word and use correctly in a sentence.)
Venerating afterward was a bit of a mess at first. The poor ushers (most of whom were young men pressed into service) were overwhelmed. I got out of line and took my mother downstairs for coffee in the auditorium and returned about 45 minutes later when it was a little more orderly. Other than that, however, it was an amazing event to be part of. I left before the "closing ceremony". Not sure what that consisted of, but I knew that the relic was moving on.

I heard Admiral Moorer speak on TV several times. He was a dead center conservative and made no bones about it.
One of those rare people that I never disagreed with anything he said.

The Problem With Self-Sufficiency
I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. Revelation 3:15
The city of Laodicea had a water problem. One nearby town had fabulous hot springs and another had cold, clear water. Laodicea, however, was stuck with tepid, mineral-laden water that tasted like sulphur. Not hot. Not cold. Just gross.
Given those facts, the words of Jesus to the Laodicean believers in Revelation 3 must have stung. Jesus rebuked them for being neither cold nor hot (v.15). And when He thought of them, He felt like vomiting (v.16)like the effect of their drinking water.
What was their problem? It was the sin of self-sufficiency. The Laodiceans had become so affluent that they had forgotten how much they needed Jesus (v.17).
When we say we have everything we need, but Jesus isnt at the top of the list, He is deeply offended. Self-sufficiency distracts us from pursuing the things we really need that only He can give. If youd rather have cash than character, if your credit cards are maximized and your righteousness is minimized, if youve become smart but arent wise, then youve been shopping in all the wrong places. Jesus offers commodities that are far better (v.18).
Hes knocking at your hearts door (v.20). Let Him in. He will give you all you really need!
We must be careful to avoid
All self-sufficiency;
If sinful pride gets in the way,
Gods hand we will not see. Sper
