Translation:
I’ve got too much riding on my outreach to several middle eastern countries, and I can’t afford to have disruptive, rancorous congressional hearings interfere with my unprecedented, unparalleled, extremely well thought out, superior, bow down before me effort. I hope Joe Lieberman has his hearings, and I’m confident the Connecticut Independent Senator will do a great job.
I wouldn’t be so quick in blaming the FBI. They are doing what the micr0manager has instructed them to say and do.
That pretty much sums it up for me, Diogenesis. Thanks.
What a complete dork...the Kenyan needs to be removed from the WH...
Two separate times we heard the first day—either one or two others were shooting in addition to Malik Handjob—The count of dead and wounded certainly lend credence to at least one other person. What happened to them?
I hate to say it, but if you have to balance a perfect military trial against bringing out the truth that this was yet another instance of Muslim Jihad against America, then I think bringing out the truth is more important.
Not only that, but I’m not sure that there IS such a thing as a perfect court martial in such a politically fraught case as this. It’s obvious that Hasan’s superiors were guilty of ignoring clear warning signs that he represented a dangerous threat, as well as being a lousy psychiatrist who could only damage his patients. Yet they promoted him instead of brooming him out.
We know that the FBI is in coverup mode, as usual, and I’m sorry to say that the same will be true of the military, especially with Obama and his flunkies exerting extreme pressure from above not to mention the Islamic angle.
Obama’s position is that Muslims are kindly patriots, who have done more to advance American civilization than Christians or Jews. If anyone at the very top is responsible for this disastrous mistake, it was Bush, not Obama. Bush and his idiot spokesman at the Pentagon, Gordan England, put into place the policy of advancing Muslims in the military as hard as possible, and damn the consequences. Which is not to say that Obama won’t be far worse, since he does it deliberately, and Bush through misplaced decency.
President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to hold off on any investigation of the Fort Hood rampage
He just can’t squeeze it into his personal planner.
One suspects that Obama's concern over Congressional hearings relates less to the legal implications and more to the political.
What is the Traitor In Chief hiding?
The role of congress would not be to investigate the crime itself - the prosecutors will do that. What congress needs to investigate iswhat was know about Hasan before the crime, who failed to connect the dots, and what role PC had in allowing this guy to slip through the cracks.
The prosecutors are not going to address these issues.
It's a capital case. So, the level of scrutiny given to it by an appellate court is maximized. More than anything, I want to see this guy get the needle. And, as I said, that's not going to happen, nor is the appellate process going to be over until long after Obama' tenure is but a memory.
The Congressional hearings, in and of themselves, are fine with respect to UCI. Our elected officials in the Legislative branch can say anything they wish without jeopardizing the trial. It's who they call, and what questions they ask that may become problematic. So long as they didn't call any of the command staff at Ft. Hood, or the Army Chief-of-Staff, or SecDef (all of whom shouldn't even mention Hasan by name), then they should be fine.
But, one thing that's not debatable, a Congressional hearing is of much greater benefit to the defense, than to the prosecution. The Vietnam-era Calley case, is clearly illustrative of this. Whatever evidence is developed in those hearings, becomes available to the defense. And specifically, whatever evidence is developed about Hasan's state-of-mind, becomes available to the defense. Depending on the testimony, Hasan could come off as a real whack-job, laying the foundation for a possible affirmative defense called Lack of mental responsibility. Hasan then spends the rest of his long life in a comfy institutionalized setting, rather than at Ft. Leavenworth awaiting the gurney & needle.
Like you said, if your willing to trade the desired sentence of death for something more political, so be it. I personally think you can have both, if Congress shows a little patience.
What stakes might those be, Obama?
One suspects that Obama's concern over Congressional hearings relates less to the legal implications and more to the political."
I'd direct you both to post #52. I address both your points in that response.
I agree about Obama's motivations. Unfortunately, in this singular instance, Obama's motivations happen to coincide what's best in the interest of justice.
You may or may not recall the push-back that the Bush White House gave to Congress when the Abu Grahib story broke. Congress waited until the completion of the Article 15-6 investigation (more commonly known as the Taguba report). And, portions of that report remain classified today. Many on the left criticized Bush and the Congress for dragging their feet to avoid the political fallout. But, Bush & Rumsfled were appropriately worried about the impact of the hearings on the prosecutions for the crimes, not the political fallout.
Congress should wait again, until the Army completes it's Article 32 investigation and hearing until wading into this mess.
I agree with that sentiment....
.....It's just that Obama and the RATS would jump at the chance to have a show trial if Bush were still POTUS, and now Zero wants to wait.
It's a game for the political folks in Washington. The hypocrisy is thick on this issue.
Obama is right in this case. Nothing could hose prosecution more than a Congressional side show with these guys grand-standing. The JAG Corps at Fort Hood are taking this very seriously and are working with all the resources at their disposal to do things properly. They need time to do their jobs without political show-boating getting in the way. There will be plenty of opportunity for congressional investigations AFTER Hasan’s trial.
By the time the G-men get done with those witnesses, there will be nothing but planted evidence for Congress to investigate.
