Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told Oprah that she is willing to bury the hatchet with Levi Johnston, baby-daddy to her first grandchild, and says that he is welcome at her Thanksgiving table.

Palin told Oprah that she's trying to move past the negative and concentrate on life without drama. Johnston, she says, is part of the family and she's willing to "bring him into the fold" and under her wing.

"And he needs that, too, Oprah, I think he needs to know that he is loved and he has the most beautiful child and this can all work out for good," she says in the interview, which is scheduled to run Nov. 16. "It really can."

I don’t condone what he has done and how he has been behaving at all. I think he’s a goofy 19 year old kid who has had his head completely turned by all the media attention and feels he is ‘important’ because of it. I mean, a little over a year ago, he was just a teenager we saw on TV a few times sitting beside Bristol. And I blame the media for it, because they really do NOT care about him, he’s just a tool they’re using to get at Sarah Palin. If he’d just refused to say anything, ever about her, they’d have lost interest in him long ago. Maybe he’ll figure that out one day.

I am of the opinion that fathers are most definitely necessary in a child’s life. Someone said the courts would look favorably on Sarah and unfavorably on Levi for his refusal. And I don’t think a refusal to the ex’s for T’giving should have any bearing on anything in family court, in regards to visitation or custody. I don’t imagine there are many men here that would want to go to the ex’s for a holiday (I know my husband wouldn’t have). But that has no bearing on their parenting or being a good dad and shouldn’t affect visitation no matter where the mother lives.

I hope he wises up and stops being a ‘celebrity’ and starts being a father.

A lot of courts award joint custody these days but it’s really no different in reality than ‘custody and visitation’. We had joint custody of my stepdaughter with ‘placement in the maternal home’ (wherever that happened to be that month...) and we had her every other weekend. Joint custody is worth the paper it’s written on.

However, when she was 13, we filed for and got, shared custody, where she spent half of every month with us. And we had any expenses incurred on her behalf for our half of the month. We also paid her insurances, and bought her clothes, etc. Still had to pay child support though.

No, let Todd sit this one out. Track would take pleasure in righting this wrong. Whipping his ass with one hand tied behind his back.

Based upon what we have seen of her no-nonsense character, I would have expected something more along the lines of “He’s letting a relationship with his child fall second to becoming a liberal media darling. I mean, an upcoming appearance in PlayGirl? Even without his nationally-reported stream of half-truths and hostility, I don’t think that sets a very good example for a child.”

Lighten up, Francis.

Do you honestly think that with Levi Johnson’s behavior in the media, he has the best interests of his child at heart? That he is a role model worthy of another turn of the cheek, just for family’s sake? That his antics are more about being a positive role model for his child, rather than fame and money for himself?

Or do you think it is time to protect his child by surrounding him with people who genuinely care about his future, until the adolescent boy-father grows out of his idiocy?

Part of being raised the right way is having the fortitude to protect those within your family who need it, even if it is from a parent. Or are you one of the lunatics that is unwilling to break family bonds from those who are the destroyers of families? Of course, you degerated into a personal attack in the very first word of your response, so I would expect neither strength nor even forethought from you.

If he has declined the invite that’s great. It undermines the lie he has been telling elsewhere that he wants to see his son, but Sarah won’t let him.
