It definitely can work; there is no monolithic “Hispanic” vote; they are more varied than the countries they come from, to the point where their own prejudices against each other play a factor.
Rockefeller Republican? They are for outsourcing and anything else that screws the average worker. Dobbs is not a Rockefeller Republican.
Either way, Dobbs has a shot. Menendez is probably weak and Lautenberg is the second oldest (85) US senator after Robert Byrd.
A good campaign strategy would be to run against Menendez, and if he does well, hope that Lautenberg kicks the bucket and he can win in the special election.
2012 will be too late, the damage will be done.
I remember too much Bush-bashing to be pro-Lou.
I would love to see Lou run. He tells it like it is, and doesn’t care if he steps on Dim toes or Rino toes if they are pushing more big government, letting our borders be overrun with illegals, etc. On the immigration issue alone, it would be refreshing to have him serve after the likes of Jorge Bush, Juan McCainiac, and Linseed Grahamnesty.
I think ‘interest group politics’ is now the name of the game and suspect Spanish descent / Latino / Hispanic voters will be prejudiced toward Melendez bscause of his surname.
With the populace paying scant attention to politics until the last minute television bombardments, ethnic identity is a powerful influence
We saw in the last election how well Obama did with the African American folks. Even Colin Powell, who seemed to be socially similar to McCain, went ethnic and supported Obammy.
I agree that Hispanics are not a monolithic voting block, but I question how many votes the pasty faced white dude could pull away from the hombre.
Are you aware of any polls?
Notwithstanding, I like some of Dobbs’ positions -as I understand them
I don’t know how the polls look, but Bush did well with them in Texas, because he knew them and vice versa.
Let's be realistic. Lautenberg is 85 years old. It's hardly inconceivable that he could fail to finish his current term (ends in 2014).
Should Lautenberg become unable to serve for whatever reason, Christie could appoint Dobbs to take his place.
Not wishing Lautemberg ill but that scenario would work.
Pray for Lautenberg, Psalm 109:8
“Let his days be few and let another take his office.”
