Russia's army will get new missiles and nuclear submarines from 2010, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday, stressing the need to replace the ageing military arsenal. "Next year, the army will get 30 ballistic missiles...five Iskander (missile) systems, some 300 new armoured vehicles, 30 helicopters, 28 fighter planes, three nuclear submarines, a ship, as well as 11 spacecraft," Medvedev said in his annual address to the nation.

"These measures will allow our armed forces and our allies to deal with any threat," he told officials in a speech at the Kremlin.

Much of Russia's military equipment dates back to Soviet times and the government has in recent years promised extra money for modernisation.

“Medevedev needs 12 rocket launchers, a jar of honey and a bottle of beer in Mafia Wars !

Lest we become too smug, anyone check the date of manufacture on an M1 Abrams, Bradley IFV, MLRS, Apache AH-64, Hemmtt, Nimitz class CVN, Los Angeles class attack subs, F-15, F-16? Heck, I didn’t even go to the B-52, KC-135, etc. While these systems have been upgraded and improved, we are living off Ronald Reagan’s cold war defense budgets.

Who knows where they are getting the money. Oil sales are depressed. Maybe they are getting the money from illegal arms sales.

But our sytems are constantly upgraded and our technology is on the cutting edge. The Russians let their military fall apart and they are way behind technologically.

Space craft.
I thought the world agreed not to militarize space.

Oh, that’s right. That is just lip service for suckers like the entire Democratic Party.

I remember reading how the Democrats in Congress made sure our F15’s couldn't launch anti satellite missiles. It was a treaty violation. After the fall of the Soviet Union one of their former subject countries advertised satellite launches from fighters.
They had the capability and used their agents here in the Democratic Party to make sure we didn't.
