Hutchison to keep Senate seat in bid for governor, aide says [TX gubernatorial race]

Washington (CNN) -- Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who had said she would resign her seat to run for governor of Texas, plans to announce Saturday she will remain in the Senate as she seeks the Republican Party's gubernatorial nomination, a Hutchison aide tells CNN.

"She will announce tomorrow at the Texas Federation of Republican Women's Convention in Galveston that she will not be resigning her seat before the primary," said the aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

"She is running for governor because she feels it is important to fight on two fronts, for the race for governor and against the Democratic health care proposal and cap and trade."

In July, Hutchison told Dallas radio station WBAP that she planned to leave the Senate in the fall.

The aide said that Hutchison "plans to resign" her Senate seat "after the primary." The aide brushed off the question of whether she would quit if she ends up losing the primary to Gov. Rick Perry.

A Perry spokesman quickly responded to the latest news in what has been a contentious primary battle.

"We appreciate that Sen. Hutchison has taken the governor's advice and finally decided to make a decision to stay in Washington," Perry spokesman Mark Miner said in a statement. "Hopefully this will allow her to be a full-time senator for the people of Texas."

That’s too bad. I was hoping for a Senator Michael Williams. Hutchison is going to lose the primary and will stick around in the senate until they have to cart her off on a stretcher, like Ted Kennedy.

I’m glad. We don’t need to give the DemocRATS another vote advantage even if it’s temporary.

Too bad. Hutchinson just lost the race for Gov. for lying to the public. No more liars in office. She also lost her Senate seat for lying.

She’ll pass on the filing date for the governors race in January. JMO. The news tonight here in Houston is that she’s 11 points behind Perry in the latest poll.

Hutchison is a socialist and a gas bag. When she went to Washington she said she would only stay two terms...she’s stayed three and counting.

You need to watch her votes. When a bill is highly published she will raise her hand with the republicans, if it is not highly published, she raises her hand with the socialists.

This woman was a crook before she ever went to Washington. I suspect socialist money is backing her bid for the governorship...they’re going to be fighting hard to unseat republicans in Texas...and we don’t need RINOcrats like Hutchinson sitting the Texas Mansion. We’ve had to hit Perry up side the head a couple of times, but at least he’ll stand for our state’s rights. You can’t trust Hutchinson to do that.

Conservatives in Texas are not always thrilled with Perry, but they sure as hell aren't clamoring for Kay Bailey to take his place.

I get the feeling she is getting an earful from people who are saying things to her like...”ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR ****ING MIND!!!” I think the party leaders would prefer she just stay where she is. We need all the R's we can get in the Senate.

I really believe that if she runs dirty in a primary, we may lose both the (open)senate seat and the governorship.(whoever wins the primary would be weakened.)

Her desire to be governor is showing her to be extremely selfish. I don't think anyone, other than her, believes she would be an improvement over Perry. Additionally I think the Democrats have some pretty good candidates lined up to try to take that Senate seat, and it would be more difficult for them if she remained an incumbent.

I've never understood what motivated her to make this move in the first place, but I wish she would just shut up and stay put...for now.

On the other hand, I really like what little I've heard from Michael Williams.

Utter nonsense.

She’s not an uber-conservative but she is far far from being socialist, and is one of the least gas-bagging senators out there.

“Conservatives in Texas are not always thrilled with Perry, but they sure as hell aren’t clamoring for Kay Bailey to take his place.”

Correct. Perry will win the primary and her decision is an admission that she is starting to see that.

Keep KBH until 2012. One more term for Perry.

Then retire them both for some new blood.

I’m sick of her. She sent me campaign material asking for money. I returned the envelope requesting she remove my name from her mailing list because I am a Conservative.

Have you looked at her voting record? I don’t think you have, or you would know better.

Not a BIG Perry fan...but during the Ft Hood shootings...I whooooped for my fellow Aggie when he said "...the Sovereign State of Texas." That sealed it for me right there.
