Why were there law enforcement officers helping give shots? Does that go on at your doctor’s office? The cops should have told mom, “Your son doesn’t want a shot. You will have to take care of this yourself.”
Read the article. This appears to be the sort of school where at least one sheriff’s deputy is a permanent fixture, as “the school’s resource officer”. According to the county health department administrator, additional deputies were “mostly there for parking and directions.” The kid bolted out of the building (i.e. potentially towards the parking area and at risk of running into the path of a car). His mother had brought him to get the shot, and apparently wasn’t up to chasing him. The sheriff’s deputies were just helping ensure the boy got the vaccination that his mother had brought him to get. Not a problem. It’s silly to get worked up over this sort of thing. There are plenty of incidents where school officials and law enforcement really do violate students’ basic rights, like the strip search incidents, and arresting and handcuffing tantrum-throwing kindergarteners for kicking the teacher.
