If it turns out he greatly increased his life insurance within the last year, that’s suspicious.
My understanding is that, under standard life contracts after one year, they pay up for suicide.

My understanding is that, under standard life contracts after one year, they pay up for suicide.You are forgetting the value of a workers' compensation death claim. The guy was allegedly working at the time of his death. That probably adds about $250,000 to the mix.
