Congressional Republicans along with independent Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman are not happy with the Obama administration's decision to try alleged Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (left) and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees in civilian federal court in New York.
"The Obama Administration's irresponsible decision to prosecute the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks in New York City puts the interests of liberal special interest groups before the safety and security of the American people," said House Republican leader John Boehner in a statement. "The possibility that Khalid Sheik Mohammed and his co-conspirators could be found 'not guilty' due to some legal technicality just blocks from Ground Zero should give every American pause."
"This decision is further evidence that the White House is reverting to a dangerous pre-9/11 mentality treating terrorism as a law enforcement issue and hoping for the best," he added.
Sen. Republican Whip Jon Kyl, meanwhile, said "It is a constant amazement to me that there are some who seem more concerned about extending legal protections to terrorists than security protection to Americans."

Hey! After all, the President of South Africa arose from being imprisioned to the top job!! Maybe they think it can happen again!!!
Hey! What the heck... I seen Jamie Gorelick back on PBS just last night!!!
Yes. Any and all testimony he gave cannot be used against him. Any and all evidence gathered as a result of that testimony must be thrown out. And since he committed no actual crime in the US, there is no Constitutional jurisdiction for trial here. Only Congress can establish trial jurisdiction for crimes committed outside the US, and in this case Congress has done that for military tribunal only. The only recourse I see here is to try him for treason. It is the only Constitutional way for him to be convicted in a US civilian court.
I like it! ‘sickofanatic media’ ... yeah, it has a truthful ring to it. What fun, making up new words to describe the pondscum media.
My feelings for Gorelick go way beyond the usage of her name for fun and games. She is as much responsible for 911 as anybody.
She, Franklin Raines and the other RAT cronies at Fannie/Freddie are as much responsible for the financial collapse as anybody.
I don’t have time to finish all the crimes.
When asked what she misses the most about 9/11, Debra Burlingame (sister of Pilot Charles "Chic" Burlingame III, the pilot of the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 that was deliberately crashed into the Pentagon) replied
"the anger."
There should be massive demonstrations by all "good, peaceful Muslims" showing their support for Obama, Holder, and the American justice system. Right?
Right?
Impeach President Obama.
Maybe the idea is to treat him as a Citizen of the World....
Then charge him with violating the standards of THAT...sets a precedent for others who would violate these new standards.....
And better legal protection than some stoner who may go to jail for not buying PelosiCare!
Mountains of classified documents will have to be released to the terrorist's ACLU and Muslim lawyers. All sorts of CIA interrogators and operatives will be called to the stand to testify. Can you say, "massive outing" of our intelligence resources and methods, and it will all be given free to the enemy!
How long do you think these people and their families will be alive before Al Qaeda tracks them down and murders them - and sends all of those working for our intelligence agencies and their families into a panic? How effective do you think our intelligence agencies are likely to remain?
In the end, the terrorists will walk. The Islamists will rejoice and redouble their efforts against the infidel world, whom they will have disheartened, strategically gelded, and on the run.
HOPE and CHANGE is going to be even more of a nightmare than it already is, and it already is a nightmare in progress.
This has the distinct capability of being our Waterloo in this war with us on the losing side. In the end. Americans have nobody to blame but ourselves for electing our country's enemies to our highest offices.
I think you’ve hit it dead on. People will be so upset, distracted, angry, and mesmerized by this circus that it will distract people from all the other fights on many fronts that we have going on right now.
Every day lately when I pull up Free Republic, my stomach actually turns into knots, I just feel sick to my stomach at what they are doing to our country. We have the most beautiful, fairest, most free country in the world, and these are literally destroying it in front of our eyes.
Pray for America
It only takes an instant to destroy a beautiful city on a hill that it took years to design and build. Like the library and all the rest at Alexanderia...
That got thrown out with the new standard we now have. If Constitutional protections now extend to everyone in the world, the the prohibition against treason contained within that same Constitution should apply as well. Right? Article III makes no mention of one having to be a citizen to be charged with treason.
The rules have been re-written, so I am merely going by this new set of rules. If liberals insist that KSM should have the right to a trial by jury by a US civilian court for crimes that took place outside the US (e.g. conspiracy), then he should also be subject to treason. Of course these same liberals will quickly shift their standard once again arguing that only the 'good' parts of the Constitution should apply, and not the 'bad' parts.
Or FORGET this conservative's support in 2010.
Crunch time.
Especially while Patrice Lumumba Obongo is overseas on his Asian junket. This is an incredibly potent achilles heel, in addition to being the right moral thing to do: express outrage and try to stop it from The Hill.
Exactly.
Just think: you’ll face harsher name calling from liberals as a Tea Party Protester than you will as a Muslim trying to kill US citizens.
