Farms on the radar at Copenhagen climate talks

LONDON (Reuters) - U.N. negotiators will next month put farming onto the radar of climate regulations for the first time, but governments face aggressive lobbies and gaps in the science proving the extent of agricultural emissions.

"They're lucky to have got away with it this far, it should be included in a U.S. climate bill and in Copenhagen," said Robert Goodland, formerly of the World Bank and co-author of a report which last month caused a stir by estimating that farm livestock account for 51 percent of all global greenhouse gases.

The estimate included carbon emissions from burning trees to clear land for cattle, and cows' respiration as well as their methane-rich burps, and took account of new research suggesting methane is a stronger greenhouse gas than previously thought.

Makes sense.

At the heart of the "Green" Religion is the notion that people are the root of all evil. Anything that makes it harder for people to live and reproduce is "good" to them. Of course, being "enlighten" they will exempt themselves from the rules that apply to us peons.

****The estimate included carbon emissions from burning trees to clear land for cattle, and cows’ respiration as well as their methane-rich burps,****

According to what I have read, back in the age of mastadons and giant fauna, the oxygen level in the world was about 30% instead of the current 20%. Would not this have caused more violent fires throughout the world?

One day I was burning some brush. I noticed some of the fire get into a patch of dry grass with tall stems and seed heads. As I watched, the stems got hot, bent in the direction of the fire and when burned through, the stem would fall on the already burned ground with the seed head.

So, it would appear that the fire fertilized the ground by releasing nutrients and the seeds fell onto perfect ground for reproducing themselves.

As for methane, how much was produced by all those Bison herds through out the world.

People seem to think food comes from the grocery store and farmers are quaint hicks that raise cattle as a hobby.

"They're lucky to have got away with it this far,.."

As a manager of a environmentally regulated business, I can tell you this thinking is basic to the bureaucrats.

Armed with their psuedo-science degree from some state university these people are out to save the world from greedy, profit seeking business owners and managers.

These agency rats will starve when the great divide rises between the producers and the would be takers.

Control the food supply and you control the world. Be very concerned about this one.

The only problem with this approach is that it will be difficult to “pin the problem on the US” using these guidelines. Our agriculture is the most advanced in the world in handling the soil. Also note that our heavy reliance on chemical fertilizers should be “good” under these guidelines, while other countries, including the EU, have much higher reliance on the dreaded animal waste....

Ah but you don't understand. They are the "enlighted" ones, the rules are for us peons, not for them

If anyone had any doubt about the intentions of these enviro-nazis, well they shouldn’t now. They’re the same cowardly little despots we’ve always had, today they’re simply wrapped in green.

The same people scream about our responsibility to feed the hungry but ultimately they don’t give a rat’s backside about feeding anyone beyond themselves. Their only concern like every other elitist is to ultimately shackle or kill those who represent the greatest threat and enslave everyone else while they decide what’s best.

Yes, our "enlightened" Democratic Congress understands this dynamic perfectly. They'll foist socialized medicine on us "peons," but they won't accept the plan for themselves at all.

Must be nice to be as enlightened as they are...

These Agenda 21 (Kyoto) crazed-driven people have one and only one agenda in mind and that is world dominance by one elitist marxist/socialist controlling group of people. The UN, through Agenda 21, is already heavily invested in America’s open borders, redistribution of wealth, endagered species, etc. Since congress has failed to come forth with his crap and trade bill, Zero will find a way to ‘stop by’ Copenhagen to sign whatever they put in front of him and then he’ll attempt a czarist end run of the Senate’s ratification process. A seditious act of this nature would destroy our constitution. It needs to be stopped now. If he succeeds, a committee from congress should visit the Whitehouse to tell him it’s time to step down.

If conservatives ever have the opportunity, getting rid of environmental bureaucrats is the most efficient way of restoring freedom. They’re tyrants of the first order, and no one has veto power over them. Their dictates are impossible to fight.
