GOP Candidate Damon Dunn Only Voted Once
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Thursday, November 12, 2009 | Carla Marinucci

Posted on 11/12/2009 3:48:50 PM PST by nickcarraway

Damon Dunn, who declared his bid Wednesday to become California's next secretary of state, seems to have the goods to be a campaign contender: He's African American, a former NFL receiver with powerful Republican friends - including Condoleezza Rice - and he's hired a top team of campaign strategists.

But the 33-year-old Republican, who says he's wealthy, has a problem: Dunn, who has never run for public office and aims to become the state's chief elections official, said he voted for the first - and only - time in his life in May 2009.

His limited voting record puts Dunn in the same exclusive club as two other rich, first-time Republican candidates in California - Meg Whitman, the former eBay CEO who is running for governor, and U.S. Senate candidate and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, each of whom has faced questions about her spotty voting patterns.

"There's no excuse, no justification," Dunn said in an interview with The Chronicle. The self-described multimillionaire real estate developer from Orange County said he grew up in dire poverty in a rural Texas trailer park, the son of a 16-year-old single mother - and "no one in my family voted."

"I was not involved in the process," he said. "I have seen how my errors have cost me."

Dunn's campaign appears to have some major GOP backing. His management team is with Sacramento's Meridian Strategies Inc., which is also advising Fiorina. He said he's been friends with former U.S. Secretary of State Rice since he was a football player at Stanford, where she was the university's provost and a big football fan.

If memory does not fail me I seem to recall a few other republicans with the same problem.

Is there a primary process in play here? If not, why the hell is the GOP interfering in the process?

If he is a good person, with at least some moral fiber, I’m Okay with him. Some of the “seasoned” politicians are all too familiar with lining their pockets.

“It is symptomatic of the shallow bench on the Republican side,” said Bruce Cain, director of UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies. “There are people on city councils, boards of supervisors and the Legislature who could run for that office. But the Republican Party has money troubles and people who self-finance jump to the head of the line, even if they have no experience.”

And that’s the bottom line problem with the CAGOP (no matter his personal policies, whatever the heck they are)

I doubt it! *Powerful Republican RINO'S* are a sure sign of *Rino Denial,* blacks will infiltrate RINO ideology in an attempt to gather support. I'm not fooled. Why does The RINO party have Steel? Hmmm?

Political leaders that avoid military service and even voting, it doesn’t fill me with hope for the future.

Personally, I would rather vote for a NBC of America. Lawyers NOT WELCOME! Job approval hinges on *No experience Necessary*

Love of country, and knowledge rooted in the Constitution REQUIRED.. All elected positions are Part Time with time limits depending upon performance. Salary will depend upon consistent performance as it applies with The United States Constitution.

Any applicants or groups, found to be intellectually dis honest, after a unanimous vote, will be terminated immediately. (Without prejudice) of course.

I see this complaint about how infrequently candidates have voted and wonder what its substantively supposed to infer. People find religion when they find it, and likewise they find politics when they find it, and not before.

Don’t know a thing about this individual’s merits but speaking broadly, fresh blood isn’t a bad thing.

>>>blacks will infiltrate RINO ideology in an attempt to gather support. I’m not fooled

Huh ?
