Since the moment cable news anchors first announced the name of the shooter at Fort Hood military base in Texas, there's been a clear and ever-growing undercurrent to coverage of Major Nidal Hasan's crime. Is there a threat of home-grown terrorism in America? Hasan, after all, was deeply troubled by America's two wars in Muslim nations. He exchanged e-mails with Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born imam living in Yemen with ties to al-Qaeda. Could there be more Hasans?
In recent days, pundits have been consumed with the question of whether the shooting qualifies as terrorism. Whether Hasan is a Muslim whose radical beliefs caused him to take up domestic terrorism, or whether he is a psychotic nutjob who grasped for radical Islam during his mental decline, the matter is academic. What commentators are really debating is whether we should be worried about home-grown terrorism among the sizable population of American Muslims. After all, Western Europe, like the United States, has a growing Muslim population. While the United States has been mostly immune to home-grown Islamic terrorism, Western Europe has been plagued with it for years. But a serious examination of the American Muslim community, and how it differs from Muslim communities in Western Europe, shows that we have little to worry about. Indeed, free and prosperous American Muslims may be among our greatest assets against Islamic terrorism.

Home grown terrorism isn’t a “threat”....
It’s a freaking PROMISE if we continue to let Islamists do what they want here.
All Muslims and their sympathizers, like the jerk who wrote this article, should be booted out of this country permanently.
How many attacks have been prevented,I can’t keep track, nidal hasan got through because of PC bull@$&T,the author of this article is a moron, like most on the left.
I hope European countries issue a tradition expulsion of Muslim from their countries. Sure, they wouldn’t be popular but they would save their civilization!
Oh yes, one more thing, each European country-post Muslim expulsion, should offer big tax incentives for each married couple to have at least three children. Traditional Europeans should stock up again.
Anyone against my idea is actually a hater of Europe. I can see no other reason.
Tell that to the families of the 13 killed at Ft. Hood you imbecile!
This article is very comforting, just like how before WWII we heard that the Nazis made the trains run on time and where great athletes and made such wonderful clocks. All true, but irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if a murdering monster has good manners. Our enmity and distrust of Islam is well founded and perfectly reasonable, given the events of the last few decades and our knowledge of history.
Who are these people?
—
Who? The Muslims, or this F’d up Media?
First, it’s “Americans are overpaid”, then it’s the “Recession is over (part 8)”, now this CRAP.

What pis@es me off more than anything that the rotten Muslim Terrorists Hasan will be on trial for years and will probably end up with life.
The media.
We know who the muslims are, even if the press wno’t admit it.
I could accept that if it weren't for all the killing and terrorism stuff which seems to contradict it.
Will this stupid author retract these words when the next attack happens?
Why this drumbeat from the usual liberal media, especially when they're so absurdly wrong and more so with each new piece of evidence revealed? I think it's a desperate attempt to maintain a political narrative in which the right wing is the repository of all the crazy violence and the rest of the world the innocent victims or righteous avengers. One notes that the left wing appears nowhere in this moral calculus, flying far above it all and reviewing the ground below through the eye of intellectual and moral perfection. It's a self-aggrandizing fantasy, and it's no real surprise to read it in The Atlantic.
“Could there be more Hasans?” We just executed one. He only got ten civilians in the DC area, as opposed to Hasan’s thirteen soldiers in Fort Hood, but WAKE UP, America, there are way too many here already!
