United States Army Major Nidal Hasan proclaimed himself a "soldier of Allah" on private business cards he obtained over the Internet and kept in a box at his apartment near Fort Hood, Texas.

Hasan, the alleged perpetrator of last week's fatal shootings in Fort Hood, TX, was charged Thursday with 13 counts of premeditated murder under Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which can carry a sentence up to death or life imprisonment.

"He was making no secret of allegiances," said former FBI agent Brad Garrett, an ABC News consultant.

It is quite Obvious that Hasan was a terrorist. His allegiances were clearly not to the United States. Thankfully the media is finally reporting the truth.

Our soldiers were killed and wounded by the enemy, but to avoid political embarrassment are denied recognition or honor. Instead they are treated as if they were hapless common crime victims.

Maybe this article claiming that he'd had an "Allah is Love" sticker (no such phrase existed on Google prior to the news item) got it wrong. Maybe he had a "Soldier of Allah" sticker on his car.

While I believe that the acts committed by Major Nidal Hasan were in fact terrorism, I do not want him charged for terrorism but charged for criminal acts. My rational for this is if he is charged for terrorism then jurisdiction change and the Dept. of Homeland Security becomes the investigators and will be prosecuted by the Justice Dept. in Federal Civilian Courts and if/when found guilty will serve his time in Civilian Federal Penitentiary. If kept as criminal acts the Military retains jurisdiction of the investigation and will face a General Court Marshal where defense lawyers do not have the latitude they have in Civilian Courts. Also if/when found guilty and even if he get a life sentence he will face a Military Federal Penitentiary like Ft Leavenworth where they really do make little rocks out of big rocks.

Let's see, if he'd used a suicide bomb, would that be "terrorism"? If so, the only difference would be the choice of weapon.

If he did so by the order of a superior within an organization, does that make it "terrorism"? If so, then if he instead follows their "suggestions," the only difference would be the degree of his fanatacism, which doesn't change the act one bit.

An amorphous global jihad requires little in the way of organization. Indeed, the less there is the better to avoid detection and intervention. Hence, this was clearly within the realm of murderous acts for political and religious ends, just as much as any other act of nominal terrorism. You can call him "crazy" but then, you would have to call every jihadi the same thing.
