Maximum sentence for racist murderer (Germany, man who stabbed Muslim woman in courtroom gets life)

Alex W., the man who stabbed pregnant Egyptian pharmacist Marwa al-Sherbini to death in a courtroom in Dresden in July, was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday. The judge imposed the harshest possible sentence under the German system by ruling that W. will not be eligible for parole after 15 years.

A court in Dresden sentenced Alex W., a German man of Russian origin, to life in prison on Wednesday for murdering Marwa al-Sherbini, a pregnant Egyptian woman, by stabbing her 16 times in a courtroom in a case that caused outrage across the Arab world.

The judge, Birgit Wiegand, ruled that the crime was so brutal that Alex W., who moved to Germany in 2003, will not be eligible for parole after 15 years. He may be in jail for between 18 and 25 years before a board reviews whether he can get parole.

I have no problem with this verdict, of course, except that given the savagery of what he did, stabbing this woman 16 times and almost killing her husband when he tried to defend her--in a courtroom with inadequate security--he should be riding the needle instead of getting "life," meaning "eligible for parole in 18-23 years."

Notice that nobody in Germany but the furthest of the fringe came to this freak's defense, as opposed to the way that the mainstream media and our own government are trying to find ANYTHING to downplay the Fort Hood terrorist's Islamic connections, and paint him to be the victim instead of the 14 innocents he killed and the 43 he wounded. While Herr Alex here is being properly punished for a heinous crime, I honestly do wonder if the roles were reversed, and a mentally-unstable Muslim, at a hearing where he was accused of insulting a non-Muslim woman, stabbed her 16 times...would justice be done as swiftly, and would the outcry be as great?

Sadly, I think we know the answer.
