With memories of NY-23 fresh in the minds of conservative activists, the fight over Californias GOP Senate nominee to potentially unseat Barbara Boxer has turned into a game of who is conservative enough?
Carly Fiorina is playing defense.
I've been called all sorts of things, so I prefer to just tell you what I am, said Fiorina, in a recent interview with Flash Report. I am a fiscal conservative. I hold conservative values I believe that life begins at conception.
That would seem pretty straightforward until you talk to Chuck DeVore.
She is a big government Republican. Pure and simple. End of story, he said.
Both candidates are extremely hopeful in a state where Democrats have a 13-point registration advantage. But Boxer has dove head-first into a number of highly-divisive issues in recent months, including support for a failed, state-wide gay marriage referendum, national health care, and taxes. Dissatisfaction with the current Congress is at an all-time high.
Its going to be a rare year because of how tremendously mismanaged this state has been under Democratic leadership, said DeVore. I would contend strongly that California is not nearly as liberal as people who dont live here think.
DeVore is counting on his military and political leadership to pull him ahead. With 24 years in the Army National Guard, he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, eventually serving as a Reagan White House appointee. (snip)
Fiorina earned the endorsement of eight Republican Senators to DeVores one, has far more cash on hand than DeVore, and much higher name recognition among California voters. But DeVore points to polls that show he and Fiorina are in a statistical dead-heat in terms of voter support, despite how well shes known.

DeVore __ vs. __ Fiorina
Rubio __ vs. __ Crist
Sarah __ vs. __ Mitt
to name just a couple ...
We've supported and elected those before.
The analogy is wrong because there will be a primary. If the GOP voters in each of those states pick the less conservative GOP candidate, most conservatives will vote for the GOP candidate in the general election. Hopefully the same thing can be said, if the voters in those state pick the more conservative GOP candidate in each state.
Also I suspect that none of the less conservative GOP candidates support card check for example.
does she believe in AGW?
all “good moderates” do...
I think she's Mitt in drag (or is Mitt Fiorina in drag?)
I don’t understand - If Carly claims she is a fiscal conservative with conservative values (I assume growth-oriented, tax cutting, etc.) and is pro-life, what’s wrong with her?
I don’t know much else about her, but I kind of like her as a candidate.
I sure don’t think she’s another Scuzzyfuzzy.
In this case, either is better than Boxer!
A statewide California election is NOT a single Republican-leaning district in New York. Fiorina is NOT the ideal conservative candidate, but she’ll get 10-15 points more than Devore could get in his wildest dreams. I don’t know if she can knock off Boxer, but she can make it a race. Devore wouldn’t get 40% of the vote. He’d guarantee Boxer another term.
However, IMHO, Fiarino has probably received too much criticism & not enough credit for her time as CEO of HP. Granted, HP stock took a nose dive, about the time she took over & rose after she left. OTOH, the stocks of other computer companies also tanked, at about the same time. Compare DELL to HP — you'll see them declining in tandem. That's a sure indicator that there were some common factors involved (e.g. the commodification of personal computers).
HP stock has since risen dramatically against DELL stock. IMHO, this is at least a partial vindication of Fiarino’s strategy for the company. Long-term strategy takes a while to bear fruit. The strategy that Fiarino has been most criticized for — taking over Compaq — seems to have paid off.
I've never worked for HP & I'm sure that Fiarino had plenty of faults as a boss. I'm just saying that she might be a better strategist, than she's given credit for.
You keep her and keep her sorry liberal ass oout of California!
Exactly, now if we could just get the RNC and their sister organizations to STFU and let the Republican voters of each state choose on a level playing field, conservatives would have no reason to gripe about the result.
But "Sarah vs. Mitt" is very different, because the presidential nominating process is front loaded with the same liberal, crossover voting states that gave us McQueeg.
It’s California. I’m not convinced a liberal or conservative Republican can win. Arnold’s an exception. The first election was a special election because of the recall and he was a prominent celebrity married to a Kennedy.
But then NJ seemed a far shot so I guess this could be an unusual year.
She has supported the bailout which makes her fiscal conservative claim laughable, and she owns a house in D.C. I don't believe she's pro-life and Boxer will attack her on it anyway, in which she'll offer a lame apology and mumble the usual "but I support it in cases of rape, incest, mother's life in danger" BS. Which means whatever conservatives still supporting her will stay home and the pro-abortionists will continue to support Boxer.
DeVore does have his work cut out for him though. He needs to ignore Fiorina and start talking about the issues.
I agree she is no Scozzafava (not a high bar there). But, Ca. 2010: Fiorina counters DeVore/DeMint with 8 GOP senators [Snowe, Collins, Graham, McCain]: At least Carly is being very clear on who she sees as her GOP idols. This is why I would oppose her in the primary (and think the GOP should stay out of the primary; let the voters decide). That said, if Carly prevails in the primary, she would get my 'hypothetical' ABB vote (anybody but Boxer).
If McCain’s behind her, she supports most of the Soros agenda. That has to include AGW.
Make no mistake. The NRCC game playing has not stopped.
Here in Michigan’s 7th district conservative Tim Walberg was running unopposed for the GOP nomination until Brian Rooney moved to the district and announced his candidacy.
Carpet bagging is one thing but he’s saying that the NRCC recruited him to do it. He seems to be an OK conservative but the fact that he’s willing to play a part in this kind of manipulation doesn’t look good. The NRCC needs to stay out of these races until we the people choose our candidates.
BTW Rooney is the brother of congressman Tom Rooney of Florida and nephew of the ambassador to Ireland appointed by Obama.
Also in the race for GOP nomination is a former democrat defeated for congress by Walberg in 06.
You Tea Party (& "Birther"!) activists cannot go traipsing from state to state crippling the GOP by swift-boating the moderates IN MODERATE BLUE STATES!!!! The congressional representative is supposed to represent the moderate AREA, the people... not the will of wacky-fringe Sarah Palin / Tea Party ACTIVISTS!
One of the biggest mis-interpretations of a person’s role as CEO is that financial performance during that time frame indicates competence. The CEO’s prime role is as a strategist, as well as tactician. The proper time frame to evaluate a CEO in a high tech company is the 4-10 years after becoming CEO (a typical high tech product cycle is 4 years). Most critics overlook the fact that the strategic decisions made while she was there were responsible for the company’s revival, while her successors got the credit....

So basically she’s the CA version of our MN guv T-Paw here in MN.
