"The inconvenient truth, many experts say, is that 100% fruit juice poses the same obesity-related health risks as Coke, Pepsi and other widely vilified beverages."

Or to put it another way, Coke is no worse than fruit juice, so they've been lying to us all along. I love how they demonize one thing, then say it's no worse than the other thing, which SHOULD paint them as liars and completely dismiss anything they ever said, but they think we're supposed to respond by now believing BOTH things are bad, instead of neither, which would be logical. Arrogant asshats.

These guys had best be careful how many things they get so alarmed about. People still have to eat and drink, and if they object to everything, it's the same as not objecting to anything.

High fructose corn syrup is the culprit.

In the modern diet, "there's no need for any juice at all."

Scurvy!

For liberals its ALL about control.

They really don’t care about your health.

They get a thrill at CONTROLLING YOU and YOUR KIDS.

OTOH, they want to legalize marijuanna!

Here’s a lovely outcome from a Mom that was a “regular marijuann user”:

Report Finds N.Y. Wrong-Way Crash Mom Smoked Pot When Kids Were in Bed
Monday, November 09, 2009

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — State Police investigators said in a written report that a woman who killed seven people plus herself in a crash on the Taconic State Parkway was a regular marijuana user.

The report says Diane Schuler’s husband told police his wife “smoked marijuana once in a while to relieve the stress of work and the kids.”

Schuler’s sister-in-law told police she “didn’t believe in medicine and used marijuana to relax,” usually smoking after her children went to bed.

Fine. I'll drink my grape juice with the sugar eliminated naturally.

I always buy the Simply Orange. It’s pure 100% juice with no HCFS and it’s not from concentrate.

It’s worth noting that “Twinkie tax” creator Kelly Brownell isn’t jumping on the opportunity to call for a government War on Fruit Juice.

Ah, one of the bigwigs at Center for Science in the Public Interest, an organization which authored dietary alarmism such as "Movie Theater Popcorn: Kernels of Death" and "Chinese Food: The New Yellow Peril".

But, but, but...

We just went to all the trouble and expense of removing that nasty soda from school vending machines and replacing it with water and 100% fruit juice...

I had a doctor tell me over a decade ago to try to stop drinking fruit juices with added sugars and also try to reduce the natural ones as their natural sugar content was high. He said all one really needs to drink is purified water and that is exactly how he himself lived. The doctor I see now is a little more lenient saying, water is the most important fluid to drink, fruit juices should be avoided; eat the apple or orange in its entirety, and green tea is okay at a minimum unless you're able to handle the caffeine, then you can have more. She also recommends other herbal teas on occasion. She is rip-roaringly healthy. So was the doctor I saw a decade ago. So is my nutritionist who says "reduce the juice." So I try to follow their advice. I now drink purified water on occasion with organic lemon squeezed in, in addition to a drop of cayenne pepper. mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm

I have two orange trees in my back yard, and whenever enough oranges are ripe, I squeeze them for fresh juice. My only regret is that I didn’t plant two more trees.

“there’s no need for any juice at all.”

Why do these skinny clip-haired Communist harpies prattle on and on about my “needs”? The only d@mned thing that matters one iota is my “wants”. Maybe i just WANT the orange juice.

I love the taste of orange juice and I’m not about to give it up for any food fascist. I’d also point out that a lot of kids will drink juice more readily than they will eat many fruits.

OTOH, I loathe so-called “juice drinks” that are mostly HFCS and flavoring rather than anything that ever came from an actual piece of fruit.

Just my dos centavos.

Yes, fruit juice contains simple carbs, which are digested quickly and go right into the bloodstream. After entering the bloodstream, any sugars not needed immediately for energy can go right into fat storage. Even without the HFCS, fructose is a simple carb, as I understand it. I also have heard, if you want fruit, you should just eat the fruit and not drink fruit juices.

Now, where this gets tricky is with different lifestyles. For sedentary folks with low muscle mass, I think this is good advice. However, if you are a stevedore or frame houses, etc., you are going to be in serious need of a steady stream of calories, so I can’t see a problem there with drinking fruit juice or a soft drink.

It is true if someone drinks only fruit juices, they are getting too many calories from sugar. On the other hand some fruit juices are high in antioxidants. And juice “cocktails” with their 15% juice are like buying sugar water for $4 a gallon. Personally I dilute 100% grape juice about 10:1 to give the water a little flavor.

You’d be amazed how well that works.

These idiots seem to have forgotten that these juices contain vitamin C and considerable potassium. Those of us on certain blood pressure medications need a daily glass of juice to prevent potassium depletion. What about our one most benevolent government whose guidelines say we need daily fruit...what would be the differences between eating an orange and drinking its juice with the pulp?
