Much as I loathe The Kenyan, I read the transcript and did not find any personal reference. His mention of a grandfather etc. was a general one.
The speech read quite well, but I guess if your heart is not in the words it would come out rather flat.
I disagree about the speech. It lacked content in terms of the enemy we are fighting and frankly, that the "T" word was not mentioned. It was a dishonest speech. Specifically,
It may be hard to comprehend the twisted logic that led to this tragedy. But this much we do know no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor. And for what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice in this world, and the next.
We are a nation of laws whose commitment to justice is so enduring that we would treat a gunman and give him due process, just as surely as we will see that he pays for his crimes.
Obama is treating this as a criminal matter, not an act of terrorism. To admit that it is a terrorist act hurts Obama politically, especially in view of his ongoing contretemps with Dick Cheney. And it demonstrates how vulnerable we really are. The Dems are working now on revising the Patriot Act.
