South Carolina's Legislative Black Caucus wants to make sure that minorities have a fair and equal shot at the new jobs Boeing Co. is bringing to the Lowcountry, according to letter obtained by The Post and Courier Monday.

Sen. Robert Ford, a Charleston Democrat and chairman of the caucus' Civil Rights and Affirmative Action Committee, wrote Boeing's president Jim McNerney Oct. 30 to ask for information about the company's hiring practices.

Ford, who is running for governor, represents Senate District 42, where Boeing's newly announced Dreamliner production line will be located. He included in the letter the racial makeup of his district and the greater Charleston area, which is 55 percent and 40 percent African-American, respectively, according to Ford. The overall black population statewide is 31 percent, Ford said.

Be careful what you wish for Sen. Ford. If Boeing hires too many black people, they will no longer be government dependents meaning they will no longer need to vote for you.

So-o-o-o-o-o-o......go Boeing!

Greenville MS was once the proposed site for some aviation development, also by Boeing, I believe.

That idea NEVER got off the ground (pun intended) -—

The work ethic and the education system in Greenville MS were not up to par, at all.

Boy, did Boeing screw the pooch on this or what? They won’t find a bit of difference moving from union infested Seattle to a Democrat dominated district in SC. What morons.

I couldn't agree more. Affirmative action instead of qualifications... are affirmative action recipients really that superficial that they believe that qualifications are only skin deep???? No, Obama and Nancy (under the knife) prove that superficiality rather than the content of one's heart and mind matter most in society today. It is no wonder that Nancy and Barry are such buds...they believe that nothing matters more than whatever is skin deep.

Affirmative Action Committee

Just insane.

Ford, who is running for governor......included in the letter the racial makeup of his district and the greater Charleston area, which is 55 percent and 40 percent African-American, respectively, according to Ford. The overall black population statewide is 31 percent, Ford said.

So the intimation by this shakedown artist (aka democrat politician) is that the percentage of blacks at this Boeing facility had better be at least 31 percent...or else the management gets called in for show hearings?

I would love to see Boeing announce that they have decided to move the plant to another district, and flat out state that it was because of meddling by this member of the "Affirmative Action Committee".

AFIK, the NAACP is still boycotting SC for flying a Confederate flag at the state capitol. How will we ever survive this?

There is no link to the “rest of the story” but seeing that Robert Ford wrote the letter, gee, gosh, I bet it was a doozie.

Ford is running for governor, need I say more? Oh yeah, he wants the votes of his constituacy and he won’t get it unless he gets the backing of the NAACP. That organization has and is losing it all over the country because they won’t face the issues that involve the community.

Typical Ford. Someone else must have written the letter. He is a bombastic individual, good comic relief.
