The Florida Medical Association (FMA), which represents more than 19,000 physicians statewide, is disappointed with the American Medical Associations support for the passage of HR 3962, the U.S. House of Representatives health care system reform bill.
The FMA has consistently opposed health care system reform proposals that intrude upon the patient-physician relationship, lack meaningful tort reform, fail to replace the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate formula, and set the stage for a single-payer system. HR 3962 does all of the above, and passage of this bill would burden medical practice with an alarming volume of new federal bureaucratic requirements. These actions, or lack thereof, go directly against the goal of increasing Americans access to high-quality medical care, and they are financially unsustainable.
The FMA supports legislation that preserves the patient-physician relationship, the individual patients right to choose his or her physician and insurance provider, and ensures quality determinations regarding medical care are made by physicians, not the federal government. It is in that spirit that we support the resolution, introduced to the AMA House of Delegates by former AMA President Daniel H. Stormy Johnson, MD, to rescind the AMAs support of HR 3962. FMA representatives will advocate these positions, along with our vision for meaningful health care reform, at the AMAs Interim Meeting.

Who would want a Doctor so monumentally stupid as to belong to the AMA?
Here’s how I see it ... the FMA is a daughter to the AMA. The FMA should have had their behinds out front at the protests in droves ... I see it as a day late and a dollar short. The FMA is doing damage control for the members.
As long as they still say No after it becomes law. Yeah
Great conventions. I can’t think of a single other reason. In fact, most DON’T belong to the AMA.
Doctor cousin was discussing bill on Friday with three other docs over lunch and all three said they would be quitting their practices if the bill goes into effect, and that they knew a lot more doctors that were saying the same thing.
So let’s see — supposedly 30,000,000 NEW people thrown into the health system and we may lose a good percentage of our older currently practicing physicians over this. And this is supposed to work out well? Oh I get it - it’s that NEW math I’ve heard so much about.
