Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is awake and talking, a Brooke Army Medical Center spokesman said Sunday.
Dewey Mitchell, public affairs chief at the hospital, said he did not know if the accused gunman in Thursday mass shooting at Fort Hood is talking to investigators.
I am not sure how much he is talking, Dewey Mitchell said. There is some communication going on. I just got that indication from people on our nursing staff.
Hasan, wounded four times in a shootout with post police, is in critical but stable condition, Mitchell said.

Given the 300 or so witnesses, I don’t imagine the case against him is going to need any statements from him.

Give him his 72 virgins. Lock him up in the basement of a convent for the rest of his life.
To: RetiredArmy
Im sure that the ACLU and plenty of the Amerikan Trial Lawyers are lining up to defend the victim for free. His court martial is going to take precedence and I think the Army will provide him a defender from the JAG office.

"Given the 300 or so witnesses, I dont imagine the case against him is going to need any statements from him." No, it won't, but it can never hurt. There have been some reports that a man in Islamic dress visited with him in his apartment the morning of the shooting. The neighbors said that up until then, they'd never seen anyone visit him. I'm sure CID/FBI wants to establish that man's identity.

I think the Army will provide him a defender from the JAG officeI'm sure they will. And I don't envy the JAG attorney who draws *that* straw.

I'm sure CID/FBI wants to establish that man's identity.I'm sure they do, but somehow I don't think they'll rely on statements from Hasan to do that.

"His court martial is going to take precedence and I think the Army will provide him a defender from the JAG office." Yes, he'll get military representation. But, I'd bet my retirement that he'll have civilian representation as well - capital cases almost always do. And, given the profile of this case, I'm also guessing that the civi will first-chair.

Thanks. I’m certainly not sue-happy, but this is a tragic shame for these families - to lose sons, daughters, wives, husbands, dads and moms because of PC gone amok...

Yeah, there’s something pleasantly fitting about his having been taken down by a woman.

It just may turn out this jihadist will be tried in a military tribune then sentenced to death. To do otherwise will create such an outcry throughout this country, the Army will suffer in the long run, lower recruitment comes to mind, early outs etc..
Another piece of valid ammo the Republicans can use against this administration in 2010 and 2012, ineptness comes to mind.
This case will received via. the Internet much more publicity then the two key Marine cases we have followed for so long.
Zero is going to be on the spot on this one. And down the ladder. Gates, the SoA, JCS downward cannot afford to let this guy get away with some lesser charges. Insanity for instance.
They just may end up hanging the bastard.

Thanks, makes sense.
Let's hope JAG can prove premeditation post medication.
