Beltway sniper fights execution as region remembers terror [Tuesday is THE DAY]
The Washington Examiner ^ | November 8 2009 | Bill Myers

Posted on 11/08/2009 3:42:34 PM PST by HokieMom

Convicted Beltway sniper John Allen Muhammad is filing last-minute appeals, trying to avoid a Tuesday appointment in Virginia's death chamber.

The legal scramble is reviving memories for countless in the D.C. region who lived through the three weeks in October 2002 when Muhammad and his ward, Lee Boyd Malvo, went on a rampage that terrorized the capital region.

Picking out strangers at random, they opened fire from a hole cut in an old car, leaving notes behind to taunt police and to celebrate the carnage they inflicted. By the time the pair was finished, 10 were dead, three were wounded and many more who had already lived through the Pentagon attack on 9/11 and an anthrax scare were traumatized.

Good, I’m glad he’s fighting instead of being at peace with collecting his 40 virgins. He’s afraid of dying, and I’m glad.

They both deserve execution, six years ago.

Didn’t take long for McVeigh either.

Nor for Giuseppe Zangara. He shot Chicago Mayor Cermak on 15 February 1933. He fried on 20 March 1933, 33 days later.

I have the gun in my hand. I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists.

You give me electric chair. I no afraid of that chair! You one of capitalists. You is crook man too. Put me in electric chair. I no care!

Didn’t take long for McVeigh either.

That was done under new language that Orin Hatch inserted into a bill to insure that McVeigh couldnt have decades in jail like your typical death row inmate.

Hatch was absolutely furious about this crime.

Hatch is just another poster boy for term limits!!

Needs to be gone from the Senate.....

Would not surprise me...if he, like McCain "reaches" across the aisle and votes for "Cap and Trade"...and "Health Care".

I am sick and tired of these relics....in our government.

I almost hope 0bama commutes him to life in prison, so it will remove all doubt, even to all the rats, that our freakin president, is in fact, a true Muslim.

Unlikely, since Mohamhead was convicted in state, not federal court.

Hatch was absolutely furious about this crime.

As was pretty much everyone else. However I still think there was more to learn from McVeigh.

BRAVO!

He’s probably got a sweet gig in Prison.

I don’t know the method in Virgina for execution but I hope he feels the pain of all the families that lost their loved ones.

In Virginia, the condemned has a choice between electric chair and lethal injection. Since he didn’t make his preference known to the judge, the method defaults to injection. Sorry about that. I know lots here would love to fire up ol’ sparky.

the governor who claims to be opposed to the death penalty because he’s a Catholic heretic.

Fixed. Being against the death penalty is not Catholic teaching. It's liberal teaching. Such a proscription is not in any Papally approved catechism. The Vatican City itself had the death penalty on the books until 1968—was the Holy Ghost in sin for 1,968 years?

"Catholic" Liberals hate the death penalty for criminals, but are all for it when the executionee is innocent and unborn.

I appreciation the clarification. I wasn’t aware of the distinction. Glad to have that corrected. Now Kaine can’t use it when it’s convenient for him.
