It’s a federal reservation. The army can contract with the local PD if they want to instead of training our guys as MPs, SPs, etc... It makes sense to me, especially when we’re short on people and they’re being deployed 3 and 4 times. Our guys aren’t trained to be cops and bust up fights, investigate thefts, work drugs, haul away drunk and disorderlies and work traffic. It’s a different discipline than fighting in battle and using very high-tech, highly specialized equipment to blow shit up and kill enemy.
On the contrary, military police work is JUST what we’re being called on to do overseas, and rather than complain our troops aren’t trained for it, we should be training them.
