North Camp Hood, located 17 miles to the north, was established shortly after the first land acquisition and was formerly a US Airforce base.

Both the airfield and the base were run by the air force from 1947 to 1952. From 1952, the facilities were run by the US Army under the Defence Atomic Support Agency until they became part of Fort Hood in 1969.

It's West Fort Hood that was an Air Force base from '47 to '52 and later DASA facility. The part that glows in the dark..... just kidding, I hope, since that is where I work. A few of the old Air Force and DASA facilities are still in use, including some of the base housing, and many of the DASA bunkers.

You work at WFH, Gato? I was there (RGAAF) up until 1987. Remember those bunkers well...
