I think most Republicans in the Senate see this as inevitable. They see themselves as practical. And will work to make the bill just a little less liberal/socialist. Most Rs in the Senate are not ideologues, and believe that passing a healthcare bill will secure their jobs. They know that Conservative voters are a minority.

(from another forum)

I’m from Canada, and I wish more people in America realized that this is a 1776 moment in American history. Once you get socialized medicine, you are a socialist country, period, end of story, full stop, because the government will use their control over your very life and health to jam through other socialist programs. And you can never, ever, ever roll socialized medicine back, just as with any other large entitlement backed by angry voters. SSI, anyone?
This is it, the end game. Talk all you want about 2010, renewing the Republican party with real conservatives, whatever you want. Once socialized medicine is in place, Thomas Jefferson as President with the Senate filled with the Founding Fathers couldn’t do a damned thing.
If they go nuclear in the Senate with this, the best we can ever hope for in the future is having some minor conservative influence over the new America of Socialist Republics, run by unions and government workers.
The only remote hope I see is secession, but these days with all the economic interconnections, that is probably impossible.
At least I got to enjoy 17 years of freedom from socialism before it caught up with me again. My thanks to the America that was.

I guess you’ll have to ask my grandkids and great grandkids. My little great grandson refused to eat Heinz catsup when Kerry was running against Bush.

Thanks for sharing. I am the youngest of seven from AK and we ask of nothing but the freedom to live. We do not believe the government has the right to steal our money and give it to thieves. I plead to the capitol to leave me alone.

Yeah right. Written by Liberals? Is he saying he’s conservative?
He’s putting the word out publicly to put the Marxist on notice so he ‘gets more goodies’ offered to him if he rolls.

How can anyone trust this guy?

Let's not forget his disgusting support for Sotomayor as a recent example.

I've been ranting about this for a long time. Those who wouldn't vote for Mc Cain as an example. We wouldn't have a government run health care plan if Mc was in , although I didn't agree with him on many issues.
Staying home and letting the dims win will show’em won't it? Same goes for not allowing a RHINO to support you if he wants to. That'll show’em too, won't it?
I wholly agree with you. While I can see someone not wanting to vote against their principals, we need to compromise a little sometimes. Not compromising at all, ever, is much like kicking a kid out of school for drawing a picture of a gun, or taking aspirin to school, and has much to do with us coming up short on election day. We see the rats stick together. Of course one their advantages is they have NO principals to worry them.

I believe that you're correct, but it's unfortunate, to understate the case. I guess that they're just too close to the picture and too entrenched in the system there, to see what a huge shift this will be for the direction of the nation, and an irreversible one at that, like every other expansion of government has proven to be. No amount of tweaking will make this anything other than a full-tilt change in course for America, a course change onto the socialist path. I'm glad that I'm middle-aged and won't live to see the worst, assuming things don't get implemented at an unprecedented speed.

It’s been too late for that for app 100 years, at least ever since Wilson’s “temporary” income tax. We’ve just gotten used to government encroachment into our lives, incrementally.

a bill costing $61 billion can lower Americans’ insurance premiums, while bills costing $1.7 trillion cannot

Pet peeve:
Let's write that "a bill costing $61 billion can lower Americans’ insurance premiums, while bills costing $1,700 billion cannot"

I totally agree. We should disagree and fight with Graham when he goes against conservatives principles but we should fully support him when he goes for conservatives principles.

Some here just like to show their internet conservatism and it is fashion to attack someone Graham all the time even when he or she agrees with the conservative principles.

Also I agree with Graham this socialist bill in the House is dead in the Senate.

One more thing to add. Notice that many of those macho internet conservatives who attack the Republicans for lack of spine have themselves already surrendered and declared total defeat in the fight against socialist heatlhcare. According to them it is over for us as a nation.

Let’s get this straight, once and for all. Mandatory health insurance is NOT socialism. It’s communism. It would only be socialism if they did NOT put you in jail for not having it or for refusing to pay for it.

"The commies have declared total war against the American people, The Constitution, and LIBERTY itself."

Soooo...after we take back America from the commies (which will commence very shortly)...how about these for a good start....

NEW RULES FOR A NEW REPUBLIC

1 NO UNIONS. We won’t need em. We’ll already have a framework of standard employment practices in place. That means no crippling strikes that run costs of business up sky high just to benefit a few.

2 No outsourcing. If a business wants to outsource to a foreign country, they can move there. We’ll help em pack.

3 Few or no regulations on corporations. Business must be free to prosper and to employ Americans.

4 No workey, no votey. Everybody works, even if it’s just to pick up trash on city streets. Deadbeats are not allowed. That will leave more money for the REAL needy of society, the sick, disabled, etc....vs. the eternally stupid and terminally lazy. You got too many kids to work...you work at a subsidized daycare so moms that have skills to work elsewhere are free to do just that...work. In other words you still contribute.

5 No attorneys may become President! Attorneys can't be trusted to be attorneys, much less CIC.

6 No more sneaking in amendments that are for one issue into bills for a completely different issue, just because it will be hard to pass. One bill per issue.

7 Lie detector methods WILL be used to determine the honesty of political candidate's motives and true political stance (no RINOs need apply). Failure to live up to the promises and original political stance of any candidate will be resolved by immediate impeachment of that senator, congressman or executive branch individual.

8 National Sales Tax will replace the income tax, thereby taking a huge burden off of the producers of this country. No more 'punish the successful and reward the lazy, indolent losers'.

9 No reparations of ANY kind will be paid to ANYone for ANYthing.

10 Term limits, term limits, term limits. Even those that WERE honest, if they end up corrupt, they're outta there. No more perpetually elected Teddy "Hic" Kennedys!

11 An oath of office and a pledge to uphold the US Constitution WILL be expected and WILL be enforced. Failure to uphold the US Constitution will result in immediate impeachment.

12 All military personnel applicants will be thoroughly vetted for their affiliations and possible foreign alliances, religious or otherwise.

13 All members of Congress and Senate will be expected to use the same retirement and health insurance that they advocate for their constituents. Penalties for not following this rule will result in their immediate impeachment.

What about the ones that have not surrendered and want to fight the socialists (communists w/a smiley face) in a different way (one that actually works, for a change).

It's not over till we say it's over. And it ain't over.
