Spat over 'terrorists' halts Conn. 9/11 memorial
YahooNews ^ | Sat Nov 7, 2009 | DAVE COLLINS

HARTFORD, Conn. – A memorial to honor a Sept. 11 victim from a small northwestern Connecticut town has been halted by the unexpected conflict arising from his father's insistence it say his son was murdered by "Muslim terrorists."

Town officials in Kent are balking, saying it would be inappropriate to single out a religious group in a project on town property and paid for with taxpayers' money. The memorial plaque to be erected outside the town hall is on indefinite hold.

Peter Gadiel is criticizing town leaders for being too politically correct, and says he's frustrated about what he calls a growing trend across the country to soften the reality of the Sept. 11 attacks by not mentioning a word about terrorism on victims' memorials.

"Ordinarily I would not want a reference to his murder on his memorial, but there seems to be an effort to whitewash what happened that day," said Gadiel, a 61-year-old retired real estate investor.

"I don't think it's right that people should be murdered like that, and that people intentionally forget what happened. It's wrong. It's immoral."

Gadiel's 23-year-old son, James Gadiel, was working for the Cantor Fitzgerald brokerage firm when he was killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center by jetliners that flew into the twin towers.

Town leaders agree that Muslim terrorists were responsible for the attacks, but they insist that saying it on a public memorial plaque would be wrong. They say many local residents support their position, while most of the criticism is coming from outsiders.

Interesting that all this has been transpiring well before the Fort Hood massacre.

And don’t mention Nazism on any Holocaust memorials, or the locations of the death camps. Anti-Germanism, not to mention anti-socialism.

Outrageous!!! I lived in Kent for 20 years until just recently. It is a pretty liberal bastion - lots of artistes and such - but this is ridiculous. When you cannot state simple facts you are in Animal Farm country. I’m writing to the City Council, or whoever I can - SCREW POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!!!!!!! I’m also writing to the father who is trying to do right by his son and tell him that as a former resident of Kent, I support him fully.

“His son was murdered by Muslim terrorists but we can’t put that on a memorial on town property,” said Adams, a retired high school history teacher who had James Gadiel as a student. “It’s the use of a word that picks on a group of people for the deeds of some.”

Yet it’s ok to paint everyone else even slightly on the right as treasonous racists if only one does something out of the ordinary..

Does anyone want to start collecting money to put this plaque up somewhere on private property? I’ll donate!

Looks as if BOR has taken up this “cause” ...let’s see where it goes.

The flare-up gained traction last week when Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly talked about it on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“He wants to tell the truth on his son’s memorial and I’m behind him,” O’Reilly said on the show. “Let’s get the memorial up. We’ll march into Kent, Connecticut. We’ll all go up there and tell the guys to put it up.”

“And if we have to charter a bus and go up there, we may have to do that,” he added.

If the memorial is to be for the Kent boy specifically, then I do not see how the town of Kent can ignore that he was killed by Muslim terrorists. After all, that is what they were. It is like leaving off the fact that during the Revolutionary War many Kent boys were killed by the British. Should they leave off British, and leave posterity to wonder? Why don’t they agree on using the terms, “radical Muslim terrorists”? It is such a sad situation, the father should not be going through this.

Islam is not a religion. It is a violent political ideology with its own rules(Sharia Laws) of which muslims demand total obedience. Religion is only one component of Islam and is used as a means to impose Islam on non muslim societies.

Wow- that’s terrific!!! I’m not a huge O’Reilly fan, but when he gets onto something he’s like a bull terrier, so this is good. I’d love to see a bunch of righteously indignant citizens march on Kent -— lol - just to see the expressions on the faces of the smug lefties around there. It should be very interesting to watch. Thanks for the heads up.

...father's insistence it say his son was murdered by "Muslim terrorists."

How about a compromise........."murdered by non-Christians, non-Buddhists, non-Hindu, non-pagan , non-Wiccan, non-any other religion but Islam"

At the OKC Bombing memorial there is (was) a section of the museum set aside to address the ‘militia’ movement and anti-government sentiment as the supposed motivations of Timothy McVeigh. (At least it was when I was there about 10 years ago)

Remember, the people that end up designing such memorials are the artists that can't make it on their own and the elitists with lots of time on their hands.

Seems the father is involved with this group: 9/11 Families for a Secure America Foundation

9/11 FSA's mission activities are based on the conclusion, supported by the September 11 Independent Commission, that the 9/11 terrorist attacks would have not have happened if our borders had been secure. It is equally obvious that individual street crimes committed by illegals in the United States could not have happened had those aliens not been permitted to enter our country.

As living embodiment of the damage caused by flawed border security, 9/11 FSA Foundation provides service, counseling and support for all victims of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens whether or not those crimes are classified as terrorist acts.

The Foundation believes that no illegal alien should escape justice by fleeing to another country or by disappearing into the U.S. population at large through adoption of a new identity. Accordingly, the Foundation will urge that in every instance involving an illegal alien charged with a crime that prosecutors request and courts impose either very high bail or, where appropriate, that bail be denied.

The 9/11 FSA Foundation functions as an aggressive advocate for victims of illegal alien crimes. Please help us continue our work. Take a moment and visit our website and, if you can, please make a donation. Every dollar you provide to 9/11 Families For A Secure America goes towards providing service, counseling and support for all victims of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens whether or not those crimes are classified as terrorist acts or not.
