Billionaire gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman gave away just $125,000 of her charitable foundation's $46 million in assets in its first year of operation and tax records show the bulk of the money went to a surprising place.
The Griffith R. Harsh IV and Margaret C. Whitman Charitable Foundation in 2007 contributed $100,000 to the Environmental Defense Fund, which is now at odds with Whitman over water policy. The foundation also invested $3 million in hedge funds based in the Cayman Islands a Caribbean tax haven that's been the subject of political controversy.

But it's the $100,000 to the Environmental Defense Fund's Center for California Rivers and Deltas that likely will raise the most eyebrows. That's because one of the first public positions Whitman took as a candidate was in direct contradiction to EDF's efforts to save the delta smelt and other endangered fish. In June, she called for increasing pumping from the environmentally fragile Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to help drought-stricken farmers in the Central Valley. Bounds denied that the contribution to the Environmental Defense Fund was inconsistent with her water or environmental policy. "Meg has been the only candidate consistently on the side of jobs, people and common-sense resource policies," he said.

should have smelt this one coming.
It's a brand new charitable foundation so some say it takes awhile to get up to speed and to find good causes to donate money to.. others see it a bit differently.
Its too much to ask for them to give to conservative causes, but could they at least stop giving money to the far left while they are running for office?
If CA is smart; they will leave this woman in the dust to blow away.
WHY DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO KEEP MESSING UP? She is no doubt a smart woman. Why not use your powers for good???
My husband and I met him and many others on a cruise sponsored by National Geographic and The Aspen Institute. He talked about supporting job growth in California, but of course I did not do a background check of his past over dinner. As these reports have surfaced, its clear that he holds views that I entirely reject; any suggestion otherwise is ridiculous. --Meg Whitman
MS. WHITMAN, YOU ARE A SMART WOMAN. YOU WOULD KNOW NOT TO GO OVERBOARD ON ANYONE YOU HADN'T VETTED. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO HAVE DONE THIS PRIOR TO MAKING YOUR GLOWING ENDORCEMENT OF VAN JONES THAT NIGHT...YOU DON'T HAVE THE JUDGMENT NEEDED TO BE A GOVERNOR OF THE HUGE STATE OF CA--which, as we all know, is in need of some SERIOUS GOOD judgment, these days.
But seriously, this is one dangerous woman, the worst of the RINO candidates, and that's saying something.
Whitman also gave money for Barbara “Ma’am” Boxer’s re-election campaign (six years ago).
Nothing is going to change in California any time soon.
Just remember, the GOP elitist leadership have decided they know what’s best for you and who can win in California.
It will always be somebody left of center.
They gave us Arnold, how’s that working for you?
The least aRnie could do is try and appoint a Campbell or a Poizner as Lt Gub, but all we may see is Abel.. or whatever the dems bless.
I seriesly doubt the Dems will field a candidate at this rate. Moonbeam has his own issues, Gavin gave it up,
instead the one with the most bucks and least conservative of the lot gets the press.
what a country what a state.
aRnie , The Austrian Oak, liberal Trojan Horse, action movie star, tripler of state debt, .. he’s doing real good I’d say if you’re into epic disaster flicks. ;-)
Business owners have to use their powers to reduce political threats to their companies (i.e., bribe the Left to shut them up) - that's why their histories always look odd in the glare of a political campaign. It's very difficult to navigate those treacherous regulatory and public relations waters and come out looking like any kind of political purist.
