FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) ― Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."

I read yesterday he is supposed to go to Walter Reed. He and his little demons were probably in a flop sweat when they realized they did not script the teleprompter correctly. So they brainstormed and came up with this visit.
Do you think they even care or realize that there are TV’s in these hospitals, there are also TV’s in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the internet. Imagine how those serving reacted to his remarks.

Obama Reminds Nation of Military’s Diversity
WASHINGTON — President Obama, extending condolences to the community at Fort Hood, Texas, reminded Americans on Saturday that people of “every race, faith and station” serve in the military — an oblique attempt to prevent a backlash against Muslims in the wake of Thursday’s shootings by an Army psychiatrist.
I had just linked to this article at the Dose. It did my heart good to see this thread this morning---not only that GWB and Laura went to Fort Hood (not surprising at all!), but that it was a private visit. You can't buy class and dignity.
I am not surprised that the Bushes went to Ft. Hood--privately, no less. They are class through and through.

Oh, I’m sure Dubya would have visited but I think Dubya would have preferred 0 to make the first one, and I think the only reason he did it this quickly was because he feared 0 wouldn’t.
