Anyone know why it took well over 5 minutes for someone to shoot at the terrorist, on the largest Army base in the world? And then to be stopped by an off duty female civilian?

Use your head razzle. Stop trying to stir up trouble, I'm sick of seeing your comment (by you or others) on every thread about this woman.

You want to start a 2A thread, then do it and stop crapping all over anything that will make people feel a little good abour this horrific situation.

Generally, there are not loaded weapons on base except for those of the guards who are normally at the gates.

One would think that an Army base would have firearms all over the place but I can tell you from my time in the Army that this is not so. The MPs are the only ones that are armed on post. The only times a civilian is armed on post is when they are part of a civilian police force augmenting the MPs. I had my own personal sidearm stored in the arms room when living in the barracks. When my units went to qualify at the range we signed out our weapons from the arms room but were not issued any ammo until we were at the range. The only time I ever carried a loaded weapon was during Desert Storm.

Perhaps you aren't familiar with these Military installations, their make-up and purpose.

Unlike a "Fort" or Camp being used as an operational base in a war zone or nearby areas for staging, these posts are small cities for troops and their families to train and live normal lives.

While there is security at the perimeter, the fort itself is housing, schools, stores, classrooms, hospitals and more remote trainig areas.

It hasn't been necessary to be under-arms except in paymaster duties and similar functions liable to interferance.

Like most of use, when our military is not deployed, it doesn't "carry" as a matter of course when at the classroom, takinng the kids to ball practice or filling out paperwork at the "main office".

I know the answer: Because normal law-abiding citizens aren’t allowed to carry on Federal installations.

I’ve read earlier reports that she was there in 3 minutes. Is it an issue with you that it was a female officer?

Most places are reporting 3 minutes not 5 to kill the terrorist. Where do you get the off duty? I still can't find that one. This story has different data and no wonder seeing the source. The next day there were over 20 MP to arrest the terrorists buddy. I don't know where you live razzle but what is the response time of cops in your neighborhood? It is 30 minutes for me if I am lucky. Colt does my security.

I cannot imagine how Hassan was able to fire 100 rounds, wound or kill 46 individuals, reload 4 or 5 times, within 5 minutes. I don’t believe I could do it, even with stationary targets.

The largest Army base in the world was one of the best places to stage a mass shooting, sure in the knowledge that you would be the only one with a gun.

Off the base, in Texas, you might encounter lots of people with CCWs, but on the base only MPs are allowed to be armed, and since the base is relatively low-crime, they don't have the need for lots of armed police.

She is a Dept. of Army civilian contractor Police Officer.

Most MPs in rear areas have been replaced by DOA contractor police Officers.

you are incorrect about the 5 minutes......WITHIN 5 minutes of the call the suspect was identified, shot and down. go back and read the latest articles about her heroic action.....without stopping to put on a vest, she ran into danger with her gun out and engaged the gunman as he was shooting unarmed men....she shot and kept running toward him. this woman is a hero for all of us. it brings tears to my eyes to imagine the selfless action of love for her fellow man that drove her to do this. I thank God that she lives and will be here to raise her children.

there was another woman victim, she and her unborn baby died in that massacre. thanks to this hero we are not burying any more than we are.

The military are not armed when they are on a base on US soil. Only when they are performing a job that needs a weapon or are training on the weapon do they have one. Perahps that should be changed, as long as we are so PC we let muslims in our armed forces.

Sure, soldiers, and civilians are not allowed to carry weapons on post. The soldiers have them on the range, and when doing tactical training, (usually with blank ammo) but not going about their everyday business. Verboten.

She was not "off duty" she was working traffic for the college graduation taking place 50 meters away. She got the call and ran to the sound of the gunshot. She was not an ordinary civilian, but a Sgt. in the base police force. A firearms instructor and member of the SWAT team too.

Hopefully the perp won't make it, and the last memory he'll have had is her face, over the sights of her duty weapon.
