The Killeen police officer who shot accused Fort Hood gunman Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan had undergone rapid response training offered at San Marcos ALERRT Center.
Diana Hendricks, director of communication for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center, said this morning that Sgt. Kimberly Munley had undergone ALERRTs basic training in February 2008 and, in June of this year, took a breaching class, which is an advanced module.
Munley and her partner were at the scene within three minutes of reports of gunfire Thursday afternoon, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone told The Associated Press. Cone said Munley shot the gunman four times despite being shot herself.
Her condition was described as stable this morning. It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer.
John Curnutt, ALERRTs director of training, said Killeen police on regular duty as well as those in a special division assigned to security at the base have had access to the specialized training.
The officers who got the training, including Munley, would then train others within their own departments.
Of Killeen, he said, These guys would contact us pretty regularly about additional training or for us to give them tips. They dont always have two to three days to do (the training). Sometimes they have to do it in four to six hour blocks they would have to do whatever they could.
Curnutt, who said he wasnt able to follow all the developments as the story unfolded Thursday and Thursday night, says he plans to contact the Killeen PD today.
Hopefully they can pick their heads up out of the chaos long enough to talk with him, he said, adding from what hes heard, everybody that was available and present responded to this area and tried to mitigate the loss of life...

The article does not say that. She was shot once but the bullett went thru both legs.........
I have yet to learn what SGT Munlye shot the pig with ... but I'll note (again) that all normal defensive pistol rounds are a bit on the marginal side for taking out 200lb animals.
Good point. I would shove bacon in his wounds if I could.
***4 hits and the guy is still shooting? Wow.***
Juramentado. That is why the .45 ACP was invented.
Yep.....Don’t fight with a woman cop and don’t run from a fat cop. You’ll wind up dead.
Almost all Law Enforcement agencies at the State and Local level equip their officers with .40S&W weapons. Some but not many permit their officers to load JPF (Jacketed Pre-Fragmented) ammo. I doubt she was so equipped because no one without body armor can take 4 Glasers and survive.

It’s hard to say what a body can take. I once knew a woman, couldn’t have weighed 125 lbs, who survived five rounds through the chest and the sixth through the throat. They were fired from a 357 Magnum at about six feet. A disgrunteled ex....
I was going by what I read in another article where it stated she was hit twice in both thighs and once in the wrist.
Thanks to everyone who gave some feedback on the 5.7 x 28 semi-auto pistol he was using.
That can be a nasty little round depending on the cartridge he was using and where she took the hits .
.
Too many reports, who knows what to believe........
It's been said that a handgun is what you use to fight your way to your long gun.
SGT Munley apparently arrived with her partner. If they got the call while in their vehicle, then I wonder why they didn't have a shotgun or AR-15 to take with them.
Had there been two or three shooters, a handgun might have been woefully inadequte.
I’d like to shake her surgeon’s hand. That’s amazing.
