WASHINGTON – A House leader says Democrats haven't yet lined up enough votes to pass their health care overhaul bill and may push the vote set for Saturday back one day or more.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland says the vote that House Democrats had scheduled for Saturday could slip to Sunday or early next week.

Hoyer acknowledged to reporters Friday that Democratic leaders don't yet have the 218 votes needed. He said he still expects passage Saturday night. But he added that some Democrats are still "looking to get a comfort level" with the bill.

I think you're right. They don't have the votes but will never admit defeat. Not even in 2010 when we vote them out. They'll just slither away.

I believe Pelosi knew a month ago that she didn’t have the votes. This is more of a design to just kill off the bill entirely and forget about it. Look at the 1,900 pages....the various jail threats if you don’t do it....countless objections. It’s almost an intentional thing to create a mess...so it wouldn’t pass.

If it doesn’t pass...the air in this Republican balloon goes down a notch or two...and the odds of them winning in November 2010...probably half of what it would be if this passes. I think this is intentional...and she knows the final outcome is a no-vote.
