I want to speak up for the quality and character of our soldiers. I retired from Fort Hood, but have been away too long to know any of the people involved and have no additional sources of information.
These soldiers were attacked out of the blue and for no good reason -— and yet the attacker left the room ALIVE. How easy would it have been “in the heat of battle” to take this assailant’s life from him? How many times have our soldiers been accused of atrocities because they “snapped” after seeing their buddies killed and wounded? How antagonistic would the cries of “allah akbar” been on the ears of the troops gathered there? And yet, we see the true heroism and patriotism of the soldiers that represent our USA!
The soldiers in that building saw the attacker firing on them, yet once they had him subdued they sent for a medic for him as well as all the rest. Once the aggressor became a noncombatant due to injuries, they not only allowed him to keep his life, but probably actually gave lifesaving care.
These soldiers are our most unrecognized heroes when it comes to their willingness to put self aside and do what is good and just and right even in the heat of battle, with the screams of their fellow soldiers in their ears, and the smell of blood and fear in the air. That soldiers can be counted on to do WHAT IS RIGHT in these most extreme of circumstances speaks more about their quality and character than my pitiful words can convey.
THANK GOD FOR THE SOLDIERS OF THE USA!!!
