It's a mystery. Probably one that will never be solved: (From Associated Press) Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" — an Arabic phrase for "God is great!" — before opening fire, the base commander said Friday....
The motive for the shooting wasn't clear, but Hasan was apparently set to deploy soon and had expressed some anger about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Personally, I blame Bush. Update by Barbarossa: Instapundit adds this tidbit:
On NPR I heard — I can’t find the story on their website yet — that he had given a presentation on the Koran at a professional conference where he claimed that unbelievers should be beheaded, burned, etc. to the discomfiture of the attendees.
But nobody saw this coming...
It’s a mystery. Officials are trying to decode the mysterious words shouted by the attacker. They suspect it’s some kind of war cry or warrior song. They are unsure what to make of his membership in a middle eastern death cult, but are sure that he acted alone, and that it was a random act, and that he didn’t kill innocent soldiers out of a ideological hatred for Christians and Jews and the USA. Officials are sure that his sudden psychotic interlude has absolutely nothing at all to do with his life-long membership in a middle eastern death cult that preaches the murder of Christians and Jews.
Officials ask the public to remain calm and not to panic, even though there are thousands of similar individuals in the USA, members of a middle eastern death cult which promotes the takeover of the world and violent conversion to the middle eastern death cult.

There were some real zero supporters calling on the 10 - 11 show today. The hosts were ripping zero for his delay in addressing the horrible situation at Ft Hood and talking to tribal leaders instead.
Several called in, including Mark passing through who said Texas was full of backward jerks. Another caller just after that was a conservative and said “Tell Mark to keep driving and do it as fast as possible”.
islam is, in and of itself, a motive.
I heard it was because he had his car keyed and a bumper sticker defaced - He's the victim here.
Thanks MamaD, good for Rep. McCaul for seeing clearly. The MSM is in PC overdrive on this incident. It seems quite obvious why he did this.
