Off topic question. Do the wounded (and dead) soldiers from this incident get the purple heart? Is this considered line of duty?

No - just as the poor Soldiers gunned down outside of the recruitng station, they are viewed as crime victims.

If, however, Hell freezes over combined with a total eclipse of the moon and the Army calls this a Terrorist attack, then the possibility of a PH rises to a fraction of a % above nil.

See http://www.purpleheart.org/Membership/default.aspx
a source of all things related to the Purple Heart.

But, thanks for asking....
